NKRUMAH’S AMAZING DEEDS

Happy birthday to the great Osagyefo (a.k.a. the Redeemer, as he is called in the Akan language), Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who was born on this day in 1909.

Kwame Nkrumah was a brilliant Pan-African strategist, theorist, and political leader. He is famous for having "brought Pan-Africanism home to Africa," as some say. After attending the Fifth Pan-African Congress in Manchester, United Kingdom, in 1945, Nkrumah abandoned his doctoral dissertation to return to Ghana and liberate his country through a positive action campaign.

He founded the Convention People's Party, a mass organisation that understood his slogan, "Seek ye first the political kingdom", meaning that African countries should prioritise independence above all else.

However, independence alone was not enough for Ghana. He understood that Ghana's independence "is meaningless unless it is linked up with the total liberation of Africa." Throughout his entire life, he fought tooth and nail for the total liberation and unification of Africa under scientific socialism.

Nkrumah's contribution to the African liberation cause earned him respect and admiration across the continent. He also contributed to Pan-African thought by authoring several revolutionary books, including the widely read 'Neo-Colonialism, the Last Stage of Imperialism.'
