Cities are stronger when they work together. Proud to support this collaboration through C40’s air quality programme, helping cities tackle air pollution and improve public health.
Working with passionate and inspiring female leaders like Mayor @yakisawyerr in Freetown and @Zermina in London has been a unique opportunity. Their leadership ensures impact. Thank you both 🙏🏿
“For how many years have we seen C40 Cities really take the lead on very difficult issues when national governments have not been able to do so.” -@CFigueres@OutrageOptimism reflects on #LCAW and how extreme heat shaped the week's discussions.

The climate fight will not be won in negotiating rooms, but through the actions we take in our communities.
Local leaders have the responsibility to ensure the clean energy transition is fast, fair & delivers security, resilience & prosperity for all.
They have my full support.
Climate action fit for a King 💚👑🌍
His Majesty King Charles III met with C40 Cities Co-Chair Mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr at a reception focused on accelerating action on super-pollutants ahead of #COP31.

In my capacities as Mayor of Freetown and C40 Cities Global Co-Chair, I participated in London Climate Action Week 2026 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Key engagements included a closed-door roundtable with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on accelerating local climate action, and a reception at St James’s Palace, where I had the opportunity to engage King Charles III on C40 Cities’ work on climate action and clean air. In addition to delivering keynote addresses at the Mayoral Dialogue on urban resilience, and at the ODI Global and LAGO Collective convening on women-led green innovation, it was a pleasure to join my sisters Anne Hildago, now former Mayor of Paris, and Kate Gallego, Mayor of Phoenix on a panel at the LSE, my other alma mater!
I had a bilateral meeting with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos (Lagos is one of 14 C40 Cities in Africa), continued my support for youth climate advocacy and shared my insights on the BBC Climate Question podcast, slated to be aired this weekend. Throughout my two day participation, I used every engagement as a platform to advocate for sustainable climate financing that creates jobs for Global South cities, including Freetown.

“I'm really proud of the last 10 years, but there's still so much to do for our city and for its residents."
C40 Co-Chair & @mayoroflondon speaks to @AkshatRathi on deploying some of the world's strongest air-quality regulations.

Freedom of speech is sacrosanct to our democracy.
But disinformation is different. It’s bad-faith actors, often based overseas, who are monetising lies and hatred for their own political or financial gain.
It’s the opposite of our democratic values.
From Lambeth to Lewisham, Hackney to Hounslow - this week we've announced every London borough will get at least one new late-night youth club.
Safe spaces. More opportunities. Youth clubs are back.
What we’ve delivered with Londoners over the past ten years is just the start.
Together, we’ve cleaned our air, built homes for Londoners, delivered over one million free school meals and much more.
Best city in the world, best job in the world ️
Nowruz Mubarak to all the Iranian Americans who call New York City home!
It was an honor to celebrate Charshanbeh Soori with so many of you in anticipation of spring, renewal, and - now especially - the enduring hope of a new day for the Iranian people.
Nowruz is typically a time of good feeling, but this year is different. I continue to stand in opposition to this war, and I wish as many moments of joy as possible for all Iranians observing this special holiday.
When I was first elected, evidence showed it would take 193 years to bring London's air pollution within legal limits.
Thanks to our policies, we've done it in 9 💚

For decades, women with severe period pain and heavy bleeding have been dismissed by doctors.
But for millions, it’s conditions like endometriosis or fibroids going undiagnosed.
We must start taking women’s pain seriously.

Good to spend time at @c40cities HQ this week 💚
At a time when the climate crisis is accelerating, cities are proving that progress is still possible.
Proud to co-chair an organisation powered by an incredible team driving bold climate action in cities across the globe 🌍
My brothers and I relied on free school meals growing up.
Proud that City Hall has now funded 100 million of them for London’s state primary school children ♥️
From London to Rio, mayors are proving that real climate leadership doesn’t wait.
At the @c40cities World Mayors Summit, @MayorofLondon@SadiqKhan shared how cities are turning climate commitments into action. They’re tackling air pollution and improving public health, proving what’s possible when local leaders act globally.
That’s the power of C40, and why we’re spreading this message at the @Cop30noBrasil @BloombergDotOrg #COP30 Local Leaders Forum.
"It’s mayors that have been getting on with the job, delivering bold, ambitious policies that make a difference."

Clean air is a social justice issue.
City Hall is targeting £2.7m in London areas with poorer air quality and higher deprivation.
By providing more than 200 schools with air filters, we’ll help tens of thousands of children breathe cleaner air ⬇️
