@davidrmarsh@christiancalgie It seems that @christiancalgie is confirming that Reform UK, despite its name, is actually a US operation. Apparently we should not be eating traditional British birds like goose for Christmas as that's "woke", but an American import instead.
@RupertLowe10 Rupert Lowe is worth £30m. What a shame his "friend" couldn't afford to go privately. If only he had a friend who could have helped him out.
Rupert's business interests include pharmaceutical companies no wonder his party wants to privatise the NHS!
@WTSmith17 Were you fired because of the discussion, or because you recorded a session with a kid in a classroom and then posted it on social media? I teach in a university and would certainly be sacked if I posted a conversation with a student on social media unless I had prior consent.
12th-century Hereford was a hotbed of radical natural philosophy, with Roger of Hereford teaching the kids in the cathedral school Arabic astrology. Not everyone approved. This is how I envisage a tabloid paper of the time reporting this scandal.
Congratulations Nick Campion @NickCampion1 on being awarded the highest honour of the Société Européenne pour l'Astronomie dans la Culture (SEAC) The 2022 Carlos-Jaschek Award! @UWTSD@SophiaCentre
What an amazing afternoon! Met up with Major James Hereford, who is (probably) a direct descendant of Roger of Hereford, the 12th-century astrologer. His family have been living on this land in Mordiford, near Hereford, continuously since the 1140s. @rlcjones#outoftheshadows
@AaronBastani Does being an important economist make one an expert in epidemiology too? If so, this "buy one get one free" qualification could be very useful advice to my students wondering which course to do.
@rlcjones I've heard that serif fonts are easier to read in print, but on screen sans serif is best, though I'm not convinced. It's bad enough that "Ill" looks like a Roman numeral rather than the opposite of "well", but when I'm told my password is Il1oOl0" it gets very confusing!
@RoyalMailHelp I'd filled in a CN22 (still attached to the returned package) saying it was a gift with a value of £3, which I filled in at my local post office in the UK. How do I actually send this to my friend? It cost £5.25 to post, so I don't want to just try the same again! #2
@RoyalMailHelp I posted a book to a friend of mine in Portugal in November, and it was returned to me today with a sticker in Portuguese saying it didn't comply with articles 28 and 29 of the EU Treaty. #1
@Seb_Falk@DrFrancisYoung My tree, despite having no roots, was kept in a base that holds water, which I topped up regularly. When I took it for composting on 5 Jan, it hadn't dropped a single needle, so I think it would last until Candlemas.
@slam165@HSBC_UK@HSBC@Google I went into my branch, and it was good timing - the new version of the UK app was in the Play store, and it worked! Both on my phone for mobile banking, and to generate a security key for use on my desktop. Phew!
@slam165@HSBC_UK@HSBC@Google Good news: I complained and they finally sent me a secure key, which arrived today, together with instructions on how to use it. Bad news: it doesn't work ("Invalid OTP Credentials") so it's back to another half hour wait on the phone and no access to my account :-(
@HSBC_UK ...physical tojen and they didn't know and said I'd have to make an appointment and wait for an hour. I guess HSBC aren't used to customers having day jobs! The bank should let branch staff know what's going on 2/2
