Don’t take the bat into the red. Send it there. There’s a big difference.
So, I have always had a problem with down and back behind for a barrel cue. I’ve always felt that it makes hitter stuck and uphill. That’s not what I’m promoting here.
The energy is created next to the back shoulder so the space is not behind, it’s to the side.
So it may feel like you’re swinging out toward the first base dugout, but the body is turning sideways to home plate and taking the barrel forward.

‘27 SS Baylor Denny (AZ) drives this ball deep into the RF corner (92 EV). Has leverage & good strength at the POC. #Sooners commit #PGNational@PG_FourCorners
@greg_lewandoski That forward move looks like that because of how he’s delivering the barrel. It’s pushed and powered into contact, so the body is pushed forward. Regain the engine, find the back again and the hitter will stay behind the ball and “stay back”
Ball was hit hard, good result. But not sustainable. Arms and bat out in front of his turn. He once had the arms and bat next to him. Lost that move, needs to find that again. Exit velo numbers mean nothing if it’s not consistent and if the move isn’t right.
This is no way meant to bag on the hitter. It’s for other hitters and coaches to learn. In fact, I hope he sees this and it helps something click for him.
Kristian Campbell is hitting .209 with 2 HR’s in 215 at bats at AAA Worcester…
He hit .330 with 20 HR’s in 430 minor league at bats in 2024….
Kristian primarily used the muscles of motor tract 1 on his right side and motor tract 3 on his left side in 2024…
He’s been stuck in motor tract 5 on both sides of his body this season….
The muscles that move the scap on the anterior side of the left shoulder girdle “stretch” against the muscles that move the scap on the posterior side of the right shoulder girdle….
MT5 uses the trapezius and pec minor….MT1 uses the rhomboid major and serratus anterior….
This is one of the many reason he looks so different throughout his swing…
‘27 Baylor Denny (AZ) pounds this ball to CF for a 1B. Athletic player, powerful swing, looked smooth in field. @OU_Baseball commit. @PG_FourCorners#WWBA

The orientation change creates rotational stability, without it, you will have to fight the weight of the barrel.
The bodies rotation supports the bats rotation from the inside, the hands support it from the outside.
When the weight is in front of you, you're fighting stability.
