Our new pub in @MethodsEcolEvol guides you through the process of writing a field safety manual that actively and thoughtfully addresses accentuated risks faced by field researchers from marginalized groups. @BritishEcolSoc https://t.co/f765OGqI3H #AcademicTwitter#Science#ACWRI
It's official, I'm a doctor! ๐๐ (Congratulations to my two friends, Karen and Aigbe as well!)
P.S. I am moving, follow me on bluesky @zoomingbio.bsky.social
@KStJBirdblog I worked at a raptor wildlife rehab center before and concerned it had signs of a concussion at minimum. It's a good sign that it flew off, but some of those head traumas don't appear life threatening until some time has passed. Fingers crossed no peregrines are unaccounted for.
What current group(s) keep track of the peregrine falcon population in PGH? Unfortunately saw one of the adults strike a window at high speed in Shadyside.๐ง @KStJBirdblog
@KStJBirdblog Unfortunately no. He/she was able to perch shortly after on a fence but was definitely dazed. I went to grab a box from my car in case I needed to take it to a rehabber but it did leave (I checked the area, no sign of it, so hopefully flew) before I got back.
Apparently except GSRs. The brief hope I had to even partially offset that $4,200 bill I have coming up thanks to the insurance change has been dashed. Well that was a roller coaster of emotions.
My school (Dietrich) heard the outrage & raised stipends by an additional 6% to try and (partially) offset the horrendous damage the university did by decimating our health insurance. Yet there has been continued radio silence from the university level. Where are you @PittTweet ?

This is just another strong example of why it shouldn't be in the power of the university to make these unilateral changes, and we shouldn't have to hope each individual school has the resources to somewhat 'save' us. This is why we need a union @PittGrads #SavePittGradHealthcare
As well as #transgender students, students with dependents, and pregnant students. All marginalized communities that deserve equity and protection from Pitt, not additional disproportionate financial barriers.
@BoyleLab@biguncle_al @PittGrads Just wanted to give some background as to why their "supplementation" of health insurance premiums for those students with external funding like the NSF GRFP is simply based on (now) following the agreement they had with the NSF to obtain the CoE funds.
@BoyleLab@biguncle_al @PittGrads And sounds like it may have changed even further since then - but I've been off of GRFP funding for a bit now so I can't speak much to that.
@BoyleLab@biguncle_al @PittGrads To clarify, later iterations of this 'program' removed that secondary fund pool that gave opportunity to cover conference travel & then streamlined it such that students did not have to submit individual receipt reimbursements per month (instead gave everyone a stipend increase)
