Seen on Netflix. Sitting on Houghton Ridge in Johannesburg. The Gatsby mansion is back on the market at R78 million.
I came across a live listing for the 4-storey mansion measuring 2000m2.
This mansion has had a long, dramatic relationship with the market. In 2019, it was listed fully furnished at R110 million. By 2021, the asking price had dropped to R64.8 million, a 45% haircut in just two years. Now, in 2026, it’s resurfaced once again, this time at R78 million.
Built in 2018 and designed by Pellerade Design Group, it took 8 years to design and develop. It grew so large that the original owners eventually decided it was, quite literally, too much house for them😱
Despite hosting functions and entertaining business associates, they never actually moved in. Instead, they opted to find something smaller to live in.
Quick facts about the mansion:
• Erf size: 4 187m2
• 8 en-suite bedrooms
• 11 bathrooms
• Spa, gym, jacuzzi
• Double kitchen, bowling alley and cold rooms
• Library, hair salon, cigar and champagne lounge
• Heated indoor pool and saltwater outdoor training pool
• Nightclub and entertainment centre inspired by the Buddha Bar in Paris
Walk through the mansion, and you will see huge oak front doors from Argentina, solid marble balustrades from Turkey, and crystal chandeliers from France, Italy, and Germany. The gardens are dotted with marble and bronze fountains and statues imported from France and Argentina, inspired by Russia’s Peterhof Palace.
The terraced gardens alone took 5 years to create. The idea of levels was to maximise the views. Rock was blasted with dynamite, and 30,000 tons of soil were brought in to create layered levels that maximise the views.
The main bedroom is just under 200m2. Basically an apartment😅
I’m always fascinated by ultra-grand mansions with in-house bowling alleys. Are these ever actually used? I am all for more is MORE, but I can’t help wondering how often anyone wakes up and thinks, “Bowling tonight?” 🎳😅
We’re launching full-length, on demand practice exams for standardized tests in @GeminiApp, starting with the SAT, available now at no cost.
Practice SATs are grounded in rigorously vetted content in partnership with @ThePrincetonRev, and Gemini will provide immediate feedback highlighting where you excelled and where you might need to study more.
To try it out, tell Gemini, “I want to take a practice SAT test.”

Most Android PDF libraries weigh 10-16MB because they bundle native C/C++ code.
Rajat Mittal built one that's 88 KILOBYTES. 🤯
How? By ditching native deps and using only Android's built-in PdfRenderer.

So glad this is finally out! androidx.webgpu brings the WebGPU API to Android developers. Having access to a modern GPU API in Kotlin without dealing with the OpenGL legacy nor the complexity of Vulkan is exciting!
