NEW: The US has a much higher stake in Russia's war on Ukraine than most people think.
As Americans consider the costs of continuing to help Ukraine fight the Russians in the coming years, they deserve a careful consideration of the costs of allowing Russia to win. 🧵(1/19)
Last night, Russia was once again burning Ukrainian books en masse: Kyiv’s famous historic book market at Pochaina was struck and engulfed in a massive fire.
🔴 Russian attack destroys UNICEF warehouse in Kyiv region
A recent strike in the area obliterated over 106,000 units of vital humanitarian supplies intended for children, resulting in nearly $3.9 million in damages.
A rescue operation is underway in Zaporizhzhia following Russia's aerial bomb strikes. Tragically, as of now, two people are confirmed dead. My condolences to their families and loved ones. There are reports of injuries. The Russians struck an ordinary apartment building. Apartments on floors one through seven are on fire. All emergency services – first responders and medics – are on the scene doing everything they can to help people.
There were also attacks on Kherson today, carried out with guided aerial bombs, drones of various types, including FPV drones. Two people were injured and, tragically, one person was killed. My condolences to their loved ones. Odesa and the region also came under attack. The Russians launched a missile strike on an ordinary park. They also attacked the city with jet-powered drones, damaging a four-story residential building and vehicles. Two people were injured. In the region, three ordinary residential houses were damaged.
It is important that our partners continue supporting Ukraine. The adoption of the European Union's 21st sanctions package is essential, as is support for our defense. It is also crucial that the corps' requests for weapons and equipment needed to counter the Russians – all we discussed with our military and government officials – be delivered by manufacturers more quickly. Everything that helps protect lives must be put into action as soon as possible.
I'm running out of words.
Almost every day, russians proudly post videos of their war crimes, and the world keeps allowing it.
Kherson. Again. The perpetrators filmed their own war crime.
Human beings are being hunted like animals, and nobody cares.
@UN@UNICEF Who kills Ukrainian children?! Repeat after me - russia is fcking terrorist state and kills Ukrainian children! This is a war crime!!! throw out russia and ban russians to EU!!! Genocide is russian culture.
Russia continued to attack civilians across Ukraine on July 21.
In Zaporizhzhia, Russian guided bombs hit a residential apartment building, killing two people and injuring others.
In Kherson, Russian attacks with guided bombs and drones killed one person and injured two more. In Kharkiv, a Russian drone attack injured five people, including a 12-year-old child.
In Sumy region, Russian strikes injured six people, including four children, after a drone hit a residential building. In Dnipro region, three firefighters were injured when Russia shelled them as they were putting out a fire caused by an earlier attack.
In Odesa region, a Russian strike hit a public park, while drone attacks damaged a residential building, injuring two people. In Chernihiv region, Russian drone strikes injured two women.
Ukraine needs continued international support. Stronger sanctions on Russia, including the EU’s 21st sanctions package, and faster deliveries of air defence systems and other military equipment are essential to protect civilians.
Russian strike destroyed UNICEF children's humanitarian aid depot in Ukraine
"Over 106,000 items of humanitarian supplies worth nearly $3.9 million were destroyed, including generators, drinking water, hygiene kits, and other critical supplies." - Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets.
Moral blindness is costly.
Grateful to the European Commission and EACEA for their principled decision to terminate the €2 million grant for the Venice Biennale.
There can be no EU funding for initiatives that provide a platform for Russia while it continues its brutal war of aggression against Ukraine. As Russian missiles and bombs kill civilians and destroy Ukraine's cultural heritage on the every day basis, Europe must remain unwavering in defending its values and denying legitimacy to the aggressor on the international arena.

Horrific Russian terrorist act in Nikopol, a deliberate strike on an ordinary bus. Already 4 killed and 16 injured civilians.
Such brutal war crimes require strong responses of the international community.
Russian criminals must face pressure, isolation, and accountability.
This is what Russia does to our children. Horrific.
At least three people, including a child, were killed in Odesa overnight. A dozen more were injured.
Pressure on Moscow must rise, not decrease. Russian child murderers should only face sanctions, isolation and accountability.
Bloomberg just dropped the Orbán tapes and it reads like a bad fanfic.
Hungary’s prime minister spent a phone call with Putin calling him a “lion,” casting himself as the helpful little “mouse,” offering Budapest as a venue to end the war on Russia’s terms, and closing with “I am at your service.”
I love it -- JD Vance comes to a foreign country to openly campaign for a candidate ahead of an election, and then accuses other countries of interfering in those very elections.
@vonderleyen@eucopresident You lost your mind completely. Insane. I can’t believe I’m reading this now. Resign. Putin claps his hands now. He has you all.
