Now for the good stuff, there was a medication intended for weight loss synthesized that antagonizes CB1 receptors via inverse agonism within the brain, which was theorized to treat obesity through this same faulty theory. It was approved for market in Europe in 2006, approved in Brazil and denied approval in the US in 2007, and promptly removed from the market worldwide in 2008.

Rimonabant was minimally effective for weight loss, and the psychiatric side effects (depression, anxiety, suicidality, etc.) were so severe that the entire pharmacological profile of CB1 antagonism was abandoned for new drug synthesis, essentially disproving both theories simultaneously.
