So, a little over a year ago, my family and I had to say goodbye to our dog Max. He was in our lives for 16 years, and unfortunately, he was unable to move around, had trouble breathing, and was blind and deaf.

I miss him so much. He was practically like a baby brother since he was a big part of my life since I was a small kid.

He will never be replaced, but my family and I didn't take his passing well. And most of all, it hit both me and my mother the hardest.

My abuela, who never liked having pets, was upset over Max's death, too, and she suddenly flipped from never liking dogs or cats in the house to wanting a dog of her own. And we had an opportunity unlike any other to show her what it's like to have a puppy, and we took it.

This is the newest member of my family, Rio. He's almost two months old, and we instantly knew he was going to be loved in my family.

Our first dog will always be remembered, and Rio will be loved with the same love we had for Max. I can't wait to see this little puppy grow up.

We'll miss you forever, Max. I wish you could see Rio right now. I'm sure you would've made an amazing older brother for him.
