Breakdown of 3 of the biggest changes coming to College Football 27

1. Timing Based Catching

Timing Based Catching lets you get a perfect catch every single time on throws five yards or further down the field.

Here's the system:

GREEN = Perfect catch (if you get hands on it)
YELLOW = Dice roll based on ratings
RED = Automatic drop
How to get green catches:

As the ball gets closer, hold down your catch type- aggressive catch, possession catch, or rack catch
Watch the catch meter come up
Release the icon when the meter hits green
Release too early? Yellow. Release too late? Red. Release perfectly? Green.

When green doesn't matter:

Bad throw where you can't get hands on it
Too much coverage
Defensive back gets hand in the way
Even if you green it, if the defender makes a play on the ball, you're not catching it.

2. New "Smart Zones" and "Zone Coverage Strategy"

Smart Zones give you five different coverage strategies to tell your defense how aggressive or conservative to play.

Access Smart Zones:

Click right stick for coaching adjustments
Go to coverage strategy
Select your zone strategy
The five options:

ULTRA AGGRESSIVE

Flats, hooks, and deep zones all jump routes
Drag routes get blanketed
Outside thirds come down on comebacks
Leaves you vulnerable over the top
AGGRESSIVE - Standard aggressive coverage

CONSERVATIVE - Standard conservative coverage

ULTRA CONSERVATIVE

All underneath zones back up
Drag routes get wide open
Outside thirds don't play comeback routes
Protects against deep shots
DEFAULT - Standard Coverage

Pick your strategy based on the type of Defense you want to play, and the situation in-game!

3. New Defensive Pre-Snap Controls

EA completely overhauled defensive pre-snap controls to make adjustments faster and more consistent.

New control scheme:

LT — Global coverage adjustments (press, shade, aggressive/conservative)
Left on right stick — D-line adjustments
Right on right stick — Linebacker adjustments
RB — Guess play, contain
The game-changer — Quick Individual Adjustments:

Tap Y/Triangle once
Icons appear over every defender
Press their button and make adjustment
OLD WAY: Double tap Y for DBs, right on D-pad for LBs, left for D-line. Confusing and slow.

NEW WAY: Always just tap Y/Triangle. Way faster once you learn it
