Kicking off 2021 with the debut of a weekly no-BS quantum newsletter by @NiroulaPradeep and myself. Weekly, we will detail the most exciting developments in quantum for a general audience. Check out our first piece! https://t.co/6GU9DypzsG
@2024dion@PudrowWilson Care for Earth and conservation of its resources are important things, don’t get me wrong. But in a relatively abstract view, the sole purpose of all living things that evolved on Earth is to exploit Earth’s resources.
Very proud of my PhD student Lev @chumwonktonodI for winning a poster prize at QIQG25 at @Perimeter!
He's the main driver behind our work on von Neumann algebras in infinite tensor networks from April, see thread below.
@RepThomasMassie@sarah_luna_1111 The refresh rate is so “slow” because a transponder doesn’t work by continually broadcasting information, but only “squawks” every second or so. This is needed because the most reliable information on altitude, vs, and airspeed come from the plane itself, not exterior probes.
@BlkMissFrizzle This is really common in newer more coastal Florida homes. The straps are always there, built into the house under the shingles and ran through house frame to anchors in the foundation. This makes it not visible from the outside. I think the setup generally works pretty well.
@MikeBenchCapon Never, but in physics I think the distinction can be important. E.g. the particle content of a theory is often not ontologically dependent on the choice of fundamental degrees of freedom you describe the theory with
@PhysicistAlex I thought it was so cool when I learned that the S matrix is invariant under field redefinitions. Ex: one can find S for bound states like positronium perturbatively by using LSZ to project the “fundamental” fermion 4pt functions in QED onto the “hidden” positronium EFT.
My first thread. On quantum optimization.
I wrote a feature on the theoretical and experimental challenges behind quantum optimization. https://t.co/Qpqmwoav7s
Here are some key insights (1/n)
@likethebuilder Yes! I say this in the nicest way, but I can’t count the times I’ve watched the bartender make an old fashioned and thought can I please just come around the bar and make it myself…
The KSR Relief fund for the Western Kentucky Tornado recovery is now up. Please donate and RT and share for all of those who want to help the people in need
