Okay so now that the dust has settled, I’m going to comment on the media watch piece that I was featured in.

First off to anyone who wondered why I even talked to media watch, it’s because if I didn’t then the piece would’ve been even worse, & I was grateful for the opportunity.

Every so often, this incident comes up on social media and everybody has a laugh at the ignorant biologist that didn't know basic math. I think this case illustrates something very toxic about the way many of us think about a life in science.

@AstroKatie Last year I had to do an impromptu blackboard talk in front of people whose books I'd had since undergrad (couldn't get my slides to work at a conference). Imagine being afraid of the public proving one wrong 😂

Update: we've started replicating their experiments directly with GPT4 calls, and somehow it only gets worse.

We've finished running zero-shot GPT 4 on the dataset, and after hand grading the first 30% of the dataset, the results don't seem to match the paper.
