Great morning at the Carpenters’ Union Stampede breakfast, and yes, my pancake flipping skills were put to the test. It’s always a good time catching up with the tradespeople who keep this country built and running.
Thanks to the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners for hosting such a strong turnout, and for the warm welcome as always. Stampede season really brings out the best of this community.
Arsenal, one of England’s big football clubs, just donated a pile of their players’ old socks to a horse and donkey sanctuary, and the rescued animals are now wearing them.
It works because modern football socks are footless. Players wear separate grip socks on their feet, so the long sleeves get thrown out. That shape turns out to be perfect for sliding onto an animal’s leg, where they keep flies off sore skin, hold bandages in place, and cover the leg while hooves are trimmed.
The sanctuary, the biggest of its kind in Britain, says the bright red socks have already cut down on vet visits. The donkeys have also decided they make good toys, and have taken to pulling bananas out of them.
Inside the Stands: WSL Attendance Trends 2025–26 is out.
The WSL drew 902,981 spectators this season – up 2.7% year on year.
But the deeper story is more complicated: Arsenal alone accounted for 41.2% of total league attendance, and without Arsenal, the rest of the league actually fell again.
There were still positive signs – no sub-1,000 attendances, more 10,000+ matches, and Everton’s stadium move made a major difference.
But the big question remains:
Is the WSL building a stronger attendance base – or becoming too dependent on Arsenal and big-stadium fixtures?

Corporations are using a practice known as surveillance pricing to set individualized prices based on personal data.
Unsurprisingly, Americans overwhelmingly think it should be banned.
Now, Colorado could become the first state to actually ban this practice with HB26-1210 🧵
