The CCTV footage of the events of 28th May at Utumishi Girls Academy reveals conduct so chilling that it is difficult to comprehend.

The conduct attributed to the students involved represents a complete departure from the standards of discipline, restraint, and human decency expected within our schools.

The alleged act of deliberately setting fire to a dormitory, locking fellow students inside from the outside, and fleeing the scene while others were still trapped inside reflects a level of premeditation and callous disregard for human life that the law treats with the utmost severity. It is conduct that, if proven, transcends school misconduct and enters the realm of grave criminal liability.

No grievance, peer conflict, or momentary impulse can ever justify actions that expose sleeping students to such a fatal risk. The sanctity of life is not negotiable, and the duty not to endanger others is fundamental.

Ultimately, if these allegations are established through due process, the law must respond firmly, not only to punish but to affirm that such conduct has no place in any society governed by law and respect for human life.
