Nigeria keeps saying it doesn’t have enough doctors.

We have only about 50,000 doctors serving over 200 million people. That's 1 Doctor to over 4,000 patients.

You'd expect every doctor willing to serve to be encouraged.

Instead, one is detained after carrying out a menstrual hygiene outreach in Kaduna State.

Another 238 young doctors who returned home to practise wake up to an unexplained increase in their induction fees from ₦265,000 to over ₦415,000.

We cannot keep discouraging the very people we desperately need.

I respectfully appeal to the @KadunaMOH, @GovKaduna, @WHONigeria, @NGRSenate, @NGRPresident, and @Fmohnigeria to ensure Dr Al-Amin regains his freedom, and to the @MDCNOfficial to review this new fee.

WAEC and NECO tried an 82% hike from ₦27,500–₦30,000 to ₦50,000.

Parents, Peter Obi, Atiku and social media pushed back hard.

The government suspended it within days and promised consultations.

MDCN moved the induction fee from the communicated ₦250,000 to ₦400,000 with almost no runway.

One got reversed. One is still standing.
Still Everyone is acting like this is normal???

A sudden increase in the MDCN induction fee from ₦265,000 to ₦415,000 places an enormous financial burden on newly qualified doctors who are yet to earn an income. We respectfully appeal for a review and a return to the initially communicated fee. @nard_nigeria @MDCNOfficial

This is a young medical doctor called Dr Innocent. He’s working as a house officer at the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital in Calabar, Cross River State.

Dr Innocent and his other doctor colleagues who are also house officers have NOT been paid for 290 days.

Yes you read that right.
A whole 290 days of working as a medical doctor with ZERO pay. That’s about 10 months work with NO pay.

According to Dr Innocent,
The Ministry of Defence has refused to pay their salaries for no reason. This young medical doctors are being worked like slaves while receiving ZERO pay.

They have nobody to speak for them.
They have nobody to fight for them.
They are suffering and dying in silence.
