Pakistan volleyball captain Murad Jehan’s heartfelt appeal: Give us peace, and we will fill Pakistan’s hands with trophies.

In a statement Murad said: "For the past two weeks, in the name of an operation, all forms of communication were shut down in the district of Bannu, making life extremely difficult for the citizens. Today, some players from the same Bannu district played a crucial role in Pakistan’s victory in the Central Asian Championship. There is no doubt that every player’s contribution to the team was equally important and valuable.

My humble request to the authorities is only this: please allow us to live in peace as well, because we are citizens of this country too. We have the same right to live safely and peacefully as any other citizen of Pakistan. We are also working to bring honour and pride to this country, just like any responsible citizen should.

For the past year, the situation of unrest in our area has become so severe that our mothers now stop us from returning home. Otherwise, in the past, after just two weeks away, our families would be calling us back home.

My appeal is simple: please have mercy on us and give us the opportunity to become better citizens and contribute positively.

Two years ago, after winning the Central Asian Championship trophy, I made the same request: Give us peace, and we will fill your hands with trophies like these.”
