To an average Nigerian, everything has to be black and white.
You people should know that what is wrong is wrong, regardless of your opinion.
If a child is running high with fever and you took to a chemist, who loaded him with drugs but fever did not go down for 3 days, before you eventually brought the child to the hospital, you're WRONG.
You're also WRONG for bringing your child who has no symptom and is playing around the consulting room to the hospital.
It's wrong to delay care.
It's wrong to seek help from wrong professional.
It's also wrong to seek care you don't need.
Two wrongs don't make a right.
The only right thing to do is to come to the hospital when someone is really sick.
We all need to do better.
Healthcare workers: unless you think it is an emergency, don’t come to the hospital during call hours.
Nigerians: Healthcare workers said we should not come to the hospital.
I think people are missing the point. What the doctors are saying is simple: if your condition isn't an emergency, try not to come during emergency or call hours. Those periods are meant for urgent, life-threatening cases.
A lot of Nigerians seem to think they have to "use" thi-
I'm watching the discourse about HMO on my timeline. And see how Nigerians are talking to HCWs ( in a country that lacks HCWs) So you see what i mean when i say Nigerians do not like HCWs, Even those HCWs that think they are special.
"Explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against you for absenting yourself from Tuesday's evening games."
While people online are busy blaming a dead 25-year-old doctor for "not taking his health seriously" or claiming he didn't follow due process, this is the actual reality Dr. Wisdom Oghenetega faced at the Military Hospital in Port Harcourt.
A formal query. Signed by a Lieutenant.
Tega was actively deteriorating and fighting for his life, but the administration was more concerned about his "ability to function under constituted authority." This is the toxic, militarized chokehold Tega was trapped in.
The narrative that he ignored his own health is absolute gaslighting. Tega did not neglect himself; he was actively blocked, questioned, and pressured by a rigid administrative system while trying to manage his illness.
This was the query he received. See his official response attached below. 👇
"He failed himself"
"I don't understand, they tied him there?"
Ironically, these are the same people who will insult healthcare workers for delays in the hospital and say the profession is “a calling” whenever poor working conditions are brought up. They’re also quick to label healthcare workers as quacks or incompetent when a patient dies because of a lack of resources, even when those failures are systemic rather than the fault of the people providing care.
You’ll get to a hospital, be told there’s no doctor on duty, and immediately start insulting the nurses and doctors. Yet here you’re asking, “Who tied the doctor there?” the same doctor who stayed behind to attend to you despite his health?
Dear HCW, don't lose your life for any patient!!!
It always beats my brain that Nigeria has a dedicated national programme & budget to fund the rehabilitation of terrorists but has nothing dedicated for the victims of the terrorists who are traumatized for life.
How do these videos make it out of their phones and yet they can’t be traced?
But the moment someone makes a comment against rubbish leadership behavior and abuse of political power you suddenly are able to track him down and arrest him?
Who are we deceiving exactly?
I will never forget the day that a patient relative slapped my intern.
It was years ago.
I respectfully told the head of unit and HOD surgery that I could not continue to see that patient.
I wrote it km his case file and stated the reason.
The patients relative insisted he was right. His siblings and cousins begged.
Do you know what's funny?
He's the nephew of the Baba.
They later started saying I was heartless, what if he is my father etc?
I didn't flinch.
I insisted that he had to apologise to my intern.
The HOD surgery begged us.
I actually discharged them and insisted that they should write a letter of apology to the hospital and the doctor before readmitting.
It's truly not a way to live.
I've not heard of people beating bankers
You'll want to do something in your account. You'll spend 5 hours, no complaints, but you can't spend 4 hours to see a doctor at the outpatient department without losing your cool. Shame!
