If you don’t think he’s a woman, you’re transphobic. When he claimed to be a woman, he became a woman. He now belongs in women’s changing rooms, bathrooms, hospital wards, prison cells and rape support centres.

If you try and differentiate between him and a trans woman who looks more convincing as a woman, you are promoting patriarchal beauty norms. If you admit to seeing an aggressive and possibly unbalanced man in this video, you’re saying all trans people are mentally ill predators. If you refuse to let him into female-only spaces, you’re removing his right to exist. If you suggest he could comfortably use male facilities, you secretly want him assaulted. If you refuse to call him ‘she’, you are guilty of unpardonable cruelty. If you’re a woman who wouldn’t want to share a locker room with him, or a man who wouldn’t want your daughter, sister or mother to get undressed in close proximity to him, you belong to the far-right. If you point out that there is no objective difference between his claim to be a woman and that of any other biological male claiming a trans identity, you are too stupid to understand the circular arguments explaining why he’s not really trans whereas other men who say they’re women are really trans.

If you’re righteous, you must argue that this man’s self-declared identity overrides any consideration of the safety and rights of females. To be godly, you must agree he’s as ‘valid’ as every other trans woman, because people are who they say they are. No matter what your eyes, ears and common sense are telling you, if you don’t want to end up on the wrong side of history, you must pretend to believe that this angry, intimidating man is actually a vulnerable, oppressed woman.

I am a woman who lived in Iran until I was 22. What do you know about torture and rape being used as weapons to control your behaviour? What do you know about children being taken from schools and their bodies being checked for signs of pellets from attending protests? What do you know about mothers keeping the bodies of their children on ice all night because they are terrified the regime will steal them? Yes, the regime is even afraid of dead bodies and takes them so families cannot bury their loved ones.

What do you know about executions at dawn? What do you know about mock executions, when they put a rope around your neck, pull you up, then drop you down? What do you know about going out with your friends and being arrested just for having fun? What do you know about police banging on your door with a gun because you are having a party? What do you know about women prisoners being raped so they are no longer virgins when they are executed? What do you know about students being thrown off campus buildings for protesting? What do you know about the regime installing machine guns in the middle of the street and massacring its own people? What do you know about families being forced to walk among hundreds of corpses to find their loved ones? What do you know about nurses being gang-raped repeatedly? What do you know about being forced to pray, forced to cover up? What do you know about being Iranian and living in hell?

You do not even understand propaganda, so why do you speak? Be quiet and let the voices of those who have been denied access to the internet #DigitalBlackOutIran‌ for almost three weeks be heard. You think you are standing with the oppressed. You are not!

Since the #WomanLifeFreedom movement in 2022 when the regime also shut down the internet cutting off voices of protest, Iranians inside Iran asked for us on the outside to “refuse silence and be our voice”.

Rather than be curious about what you quote below and seek further information about who is saying this and why, you tweet that I am somehow insane and spread misinformation.

My dear Owen, it is not your country. Be a journalist by all means but it is overstepping a boundary when speaking over Iranians when it doesn’t suit your narrative. It is the epitome of western privilege and supremacy.
