Excited to share our latest story on the regulation of lysosomal BMP lipids! Co-led with Raghav Jain, we show that PLA2G15 is a BMP hydrolase that regulates lipid levels under the transcriptional control of TFEB.

New! Online now: Hepatic lipid remodeling in cold exposure uncovers direct regulation of bis(monoacylglycero)phosphate lipids by phospholipase A2 group XV https://t.co/QcT4tpbNWl
Join us for Jess Davidson's Ph.D. thesis defense on April 16! Her research in the @JudithSimcox Lab explored how lipids are regulated under conditions of metabolic stress, such as cold exposure and disease. Learn more: https://t.co/1GmV8rLS9g
Officially tenured. Thank you to all the mentors who guided me, and to the trainees who made this possible with your ideas, hard work, and scientific joy.
Great work by Mugagga, @LainyVonBank and @_JessDavidson from the Simcox Lab! SCD1 is known to regulate the production of monounsaturated fatty acids and development of diabetes in response of high carbohydrate diet. We showed loss of SCD1 also controls acylcarnitine levels.
As promised, a 🧵 on our recent article now out in @NatureSMB! Co-led with @AbbyBartlett_@Pagliarini_Lab@JudithSimcox, we find ACAD10/11 are NOT like other acyl-CoA dehydrogenases and instead catabolize atypical lipids called 4-hydroxy acids 🤯#lipidtime https://t.co/u1E4kniIso
Congratulations to Dr. Andrea Hunger on receiving the WISL Award for Communicating PhD Research to the Public! Dr. Hunger's thesis chapter explores novel genetic regulators of metabolism. https://t.co/CWD3o4WglJ

5/ There are still many unanswered questions on PLA2G15 post-translational regulation and stereoisomer specificity for BMPs to be explored in the future. But this is a huge step forward for the field and I’m thrilled to be a part of such impactful, collaborative research.
4/ This is exciting, as PLA2G15 was identified as a BMP lipid hydrolase not only by us but also in recent work from our collaborators in the @abu_remaileh lab who further characterized PLA2G15 as a potential therapeutic target in NPC disease.
We will be welcoming nine talented Graduate Student Rising Stars to share their research with us on Monday May 19th, starting at 9:30am in HSEB 1730. The symposium will be followed by the Pace Keynote talk by Dr. Toto Olivera at 4pm!
Please join us on May 19 for Andrea Hunger's Ph.D. thesis defense! Hunger's research in the @JudithSimcox Lab examined the regulation of a lipid that controls cell death and insulin signaling. Learn more: https://t.co/dzml95fBSY
Join us for Gina Wade's Ph.D. thesis defense on May 2! @JustWadeAMinute's research in the @JudithSimcox Lab examined the role lipids play in regulating body temperature during cold exposure. Learn more: https://t.co/zEAvxqOnob
I'm beyond thrilled to announce that I will be joining the Biochemistry Department at the University of Wisconsin–Madison this fall as an Assistant Professor. My lab will focus on deorphanizing biochemical pathways that regulate nutrient metabolism @UWBiochem@uwmadisonipib
