Mike Coniglio discusses NSSL LIDAR deployment in the LIFT project to help understand near-tornado & tornadic flow better.
108 deployments across 52 supercells & 17 tornadoes. Single PPIs every 30 s. Dust is a major problem. Found often near-SFC vorticity worms. Huge vertical shear in lowest 20 m AGL. Sampled 3 tornadoes I saw (Sudan TX, Arnett OK, St Libory NE). [That’s always cool to conceptualize eyewitnesses glow w/observational research results.]. RFGF vorticity rolls up, tornadogenesis appears to happen ahead of the SVC. #sls32
Current look at Lake Travis, now ~8 feet higher over the last 24 hours.
It will climb another 4 feet or more in the next 24 hours with continued (and increasing) flows from the Llano River. 100% capacity ahead for the first time in 7 years #atxwx#txwx
245 PM: Rainfall has diminished in coverage and intensity over western areas, but flooding continues due to previous heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, scattered showers & thunderstorms are developing east of the flood-impacted areas, moving toward the north. #txwx
This will become a much different scene as 70,000 cubic feet per second of water moves in later this afternoon or evening. Lake Travis will rise quickly. Property/dock owners need to plan ahead
⚠️LCRA plans to open multiple floodgates at Wirtz Dam and at Starcke Dam later today (Thursday, July 16). Take action now to protect people and property that may be affected.
