Our water supply is a mess, and we are now facing a six week hosepipe ban because of years of mismanagement by Uisce Éireann and local councils across the country.
Yet the salary of the Uisce Éireann CEO has surged to €391,953 for 2026.
A report also revealed that 527 staff earned more than €100,000 last year, an increase of 106, or 25 per cent, compared with the 421 employees in that salary bracket in 2024.
The figures show that four staff members earned between €250,000 and €275,000, seven earned between €225,000 and €250,000, and nine earned between €200,000 and €225,000.
A further 31 earned between €175,000 and €200,000, while 47 earned between €150,000 and €175,000.
Another 99 staff earned between €125,000 and €150,000, while 330 earned between €100,000 and €125,000.
So, while households are being told there is not enough water and are being subjected to restrictions, the people running the system continue to receive huge salaries and pay increases.
The public is being asked to pay the price for failure, while those responsible appear to be rewarded for it.
