Can we do anything about Vermont's housing crisis?
Most obstacles to affordable housing construction are local!
Let's reform land-use regulations, allow denser infill construction in our town centers, and incentivize walk-able mixed use communities.

Truly cursed business plan though.
Guy had no sense of rail economics and wanted to compete with an interstate when the inner rail network would outcompete driving during rush hour and actually served population centers within walking distance of stations. Oh well.
On a whim, I went a looked around a bit as to what happened to AllEarth Rail's fleet of RDCs and according to the forums, they went up on Ozark Mountain Railcar and sold recently to an unknown (until railfans track them down) party
@JP14thStar@GaryWinslett I’d argue for chopsticks house 2 in Colchester, but maybe that’s just because we knew the family that runs it and they’d make tons of off menu stuff. Dude used to be a chef in Shanghai, and he’d surprise us with like a Bahn Mi made from scratch. Just loves cooking
God I miss it.
@AndrewBylerPA@crosstown_line@saschasegan@RAILMag Yeah but he’s talking about running keystones through the CCCC, which is going to add like 10 minutes to get to North Philly vs going through zoo on the NEC.
@slarjy I’m saying why spend a ton of money on a new line that will be slower and hit less population density, when you could just run more and longer trains on the existing NEC.
@crosstown_line@AndrewBylerPA@saschasegan@RAILMag Yeah, definitely currently with the L taking 6 minutes and regional rail taking 12. The speed up is more important for through regional rail trips, just could make 30th to center city slightly more viable.
@crosstown_line@AndrewBylerPA@saschasegan@RAILMag For a while I was thinking that the Keystones should get rerouted through center city when Amtrak to Reading opens. But if you're compromising speed for one seat rides I think ridership ends up hurting, especially when you consider that it precludes frequent regional rail service
@crosstown_line@AndrewBylerPA@saschasegan@RAILMag I think SEPTA has some plans to speed up regional rail trains between 30th and Suburban that should help with transit access to market east.
But think it would benefit Philly more to just have Keystones + Acelas every 15 minutes, and just improve the local transit connections.
@crosstown_line@AndrewBylerPA@saschasegan@RAILMag Seems like it would be better from a train car allocation perspective to keep longer intercity trains on the NEC, and do a better job feeding them with timed, cross platform connections where possible.
@crosstown_line@AndrewBylerPA@saschasegan@RAILMag I think the issue is you're destroying the SEPTA time tables through 16th st interlocking if you run those keystones express, and it makes the trip much longer for anyone west of Philly.
Probably adds 30-40 minutes, compared to the NEC, no?
@jacoblaw_04 You can’t add cars to the consist in the yard, you have to do it in the shop. Alstom claims you could do 12 car sets (25% more capacity) without changing the power requirements.
After a decade of planning, construction is beginning at a mixed-income development site in Center City, pushing a local firm’s active pipeline to 900 apartment units. https://t.co/CUAchRrhmU
