Our kids shouldn't pay for our failures as parents and adults to give them a home free from violence. When we, as parents, fail to keep our kids away from weapons, we can't act dumbfounded when they cause harm.

The kind of violence we have witnessed in San Jose School and in many other classrooms and homes perpetrated by our own children is a product of OUR failures as adults to keep our society safe and peaceful. We allowed this culture of violence to creep into our homes and schools, and now when the chickens come home to roost, we ask our kids to take the fall and liability for our shortcomings. Mali yun.

Jesy Nelson recently presented a very selective narrative about her relationship with Little Mix in a documentary that made private details public. The group therefore has a right to respond publicly if they feel they were portrayed unfairly.

We all witnessed the three remaining Little Mix members supporting Jesy for over a decade. That’s a testament to their characters and a testament to the genuine love they had for her. It’s clear Jesy DID need more support, but her three younger bandmates weren’t the ones who could or should have been expected to provide that for her. They weren’t qualified, and they were also trying to navigate their own serious struggles and trauma.

Jesy herself has admitted that her mental health issues made her difficult to work with. Little Mix understood that, so I hope people can understand this would have made things difficult for them at times too. They did what they could, but they didn’t have the power to fix everything on their own.

I also hope people consider the toll this has taken on their mental health as well. They’ve been facing this publicly while not receiving closure privately. They were left with an open wound that salt is still being poured onto five years later. Their pain, feelings and frustrations are valid too.

All four girls went through so much together and it’s a shame the friendship ended the way it did. While it’s been sad to watch things play out like this, I hope everyone involved is in a better place now individually, and I’m glad Little Mix still share such a beautiful bond after 15 years together.
