That trump letter to norway's prime minister is a good gauge of what to expect further in '26

I know you can just say things, but this one will go down in history books for all the wrong reasons:

1. "Why does Denmark have a 'right of ownership' anyway?"

Greenland has been a part of denmark and scandinavian countries before US was even a concept. Dating back to 1261 (as a part of norway), later in 1397 under the kalmar union, to the 1814 treaty of kiel and formal integration in 1953 - plenty of proof of ownership

And when the US did exist, it agreed not to pursue it further in the 1916 lansing declaration

2. "Denmark can't protect the land"

It’s not denmark who is protecting it, it’s NATO. The US has decreased its number of personnel there from ~10 000 at the cold war peak to ~150 today, while defense of greenland agreement from 1951 gives US the right to increase its military presence basically as much as it wants within the current framework

There are zero reasons why greenland can’t be protected without taking it by force

3. "I have done more for NATO than any other person"

In no time in history NATO's article 5 has been questioned as much as today. Could argue it's the weakest it's ever been, which is a direct effect of allies not ruling out using military action against each other

Going to a trade war with EU over greenland is in nobody's interest. This shapes up as another unnecessarily rocky Q1 similar to '25 ie., tariffs headlines, risk-off environment, people getting chopped - then trump tweets it’s a good time to buy again and that this was all “art of the deal” negotiations, when the damage was already done

It's all so tiresome
