This is peak political dishonesty.

The central excise duty on petrol and diesel is uniform across India. What changes the pump price is the VAT imposed by individual state governments.

So if petrol has crossed ₹110 in Karnataka, the Congress government in Bengaluru should answer why it is imposing one of the highest VAT burdens in the country on Kannadigas.

In fact, the states with the highest fuel prices are overwhelmingly governed by the Congress, INDIA bloc allies, or AAP:
• Telangana — ₹118.3/litre
• Kerala — ₹114.9/litre
• Karnataka — ₹110.3/litre
• Tamil Nadu — ₹107.8/litre

Meanwhile, BJP-governed states like Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Goa, and Assam have kept petrol prices around ₹102 or lower by maintaining lower state VAT.

The hypocrisy gets worse on diesel, the fuel used by farmers, truckers, buses, irrigation pumps, and small businesses. BJP states have deliberately kept diesel VAT lower to protect freight and agriculture costs. Opposition-ruled states have done the opposite and taxed diesel harder.

When the Centre cut excise duty by ₹10 per litre in March 2026, BJP-ruled states passed the relief directly to consumers. Congress and INDIA-bloc states refused to cut their own VAT.

So spare us the melodrama about “fuel loot”.

If Kannadigas are paying more at the pump, it is because the Congress government in Karnataka is milking them through state taxes while blaming Delhi for its own greed and incompetence.

देश की जनता समझदार है। वह राहुल गांधी, विपक्ष और देश के खिलाफ काम कर रहे टूलकिट गैंग को अच्छे से समझती है। जनता ने बार–बार इन लोगों को करारा जवाब दिया है। INDI गठबंधन की भारत में आग लगाने की साजिश कभी भी कामयाब नहीं हो पाएगी।

The price rise of fuel is due to a shortage of global oil supplies as a result of multiple wars like the Russia-Ukraine War and the Iran war. Now, many developed countries like the US, UK, Australia etc have increased their fuel prices by 20-60%.
Compared to that, the rise in India is only about 10%. The government of India is doing its best to maintain a steady supply of oil and gas by looking at alternative sources and increasing the production capacity of LPG. The PM himself has also been one of the first leaders across the globe to even cut down his convoy size in order to make people understand the seriousness of the oil crisis after asking them to reduce the usage of oil as much as possible. It is one thing for you to not promoting these measures of government as Leader of Opposition. But terming PM "Mahangaai Maanav" for a global crisis is like a cat expecting the world to become dark after closing its eyes.
