I hope you enjoy the return of the Spiritual Street Fighter podcast, in which I (and, now, with friends!) discuss the deeper, psychological, existential, "meaning of life" + "Why the heck do I do this?" aspects of fighting game competition.
This one is a RAW, UNFILTERED spiel recorded as a voice memo (audio decent but not superb, sorry) on my bed as I wrestled with what it means to "play just because I love to play" without defining myself by results, and whether that's even possible.
This is just a little morsel compared to next week's mammoth, piercing conversation with Billy Kane aka @shoryushoryu aka BK, which spans everything from how to deal with online hate/trolls to the pitfalls of "really making it" always being just around the corner to who truly is "ASS (tm)" at these games.
Thanks to the people who told me they appreciated my initial run of episodes. My apartment flooded last year, and it took me FOREVER to get it restored (it was pretty much all covered by insurance, thankfully!) and then I shot myself in the foot with a lot of procrastination when it came to setting up my studio again (clearly, I could have just used some voice memos in the meantime...) but here we are, and it feels amazing to finally be creating again (and I'm almost done with my first original music recording in a couple of years, too!) I owe a lot of that to those who have explicitly given their support <3 thank you
Im going to tell you, like @genkishin told me. We dont fear top tiers named Chun Li

It was a losing effort but getting this chance to play a set with @mimora0331 was definitely a highlight I'll never forget. Thank you @mimora0331. 3rd strike is such a beautiful game.

My jet lag has finally subsided, and I’m enjoying a slow Saturday.
The afterglow of this 3s trip still lingers.
Thank you to everyone who welcomed us, including those we played games with at Arcade Brooklyn. (1/6)

It was great to visit the NY scene together @RoseCity__. We got to catch up with our great friend 2hirn. Thank you both for helping me rep Portland and ParryHouse. Special shoutouts to @nowbandnyc for hosting me and the advice. Until our next adventure, friends.
If I may frankly share my thoughts here:
SNK went bankrupt once in the past. It later revived and has survived up to the present, but at some point along the way, SNK began doing things that feel misguided—marketing methods and company operations that do not align with consumer needs, and that are difficult to understand for both longtime fans and people who are trying to get into SNK’s games now.
In my view, I am convinced that the way this company operates will not change unless it actually collapses again. If a company fails to meet consumer needs, cannot generate profit, and ends up going under, that would be a natural outcome. However, despite everything, SNK continues to survive even while operating this way.
Because of that, I think the company does not feel that it is facing a real risk of disappearing, and that may be why it keeps making these strange decisions. That is how I see the current state of SNK.
It would be fortunate if the company genuinely accepted criticism and complaints from many people and changed as a result—but has anything really changed so far? As long as SNK continues to exist as a company, it may keep moving forward in directions that we cannot understand.
Honestly, I hope this opinion of mine turns out to be nothing more than an overly pessimistic thought.
@Amirxl Dudley definitely in the right spot. Shout out to all the Dudley players pushing him to the limit recently. This game ust keeps on givin'. Alex too high though lol
@jchensor@Semi_Evil_Ryu@RyanJosephHart Weirdly enough...Ryan Chappelle's death had the most impact on me. Jack being asked by the president and seeing it through was absolutely brutal. Chappelle was a bureaucrat but he didn't deserve that. Crazy how Jack always got the job done
