Here you can see as strong winds sway the trees it causes the loose roots to lift the mossy floor, making it seem that the floor is ‘breathing’!

(2/2)As the mountains lifted, sedimentary rocks were exposed. Open to the elements, constant weathering eroded layers of continental siliclastic rock to uncover the wonderful formations beneath.

(1/2)Geological Wonder of the World, the Zangye Danixa (rainbow mountains),China.
Around 55 million years ago, the Indian tectonic plate smashed in to the Eurasian plate folding Cretaceous standstone & siltstone to create the foundation for the marvel seen today.#wonderfulworld
(3/3)Snoopy was released & sent to orbit the sun. He was lost to space, but don’t worry, Nick Hows and a group of astronomers have been on a mission since 2011 to find Snoopy. They’re 98% sure they’ve beaten the 128 million:1 odds & found him! Fingers crossed🤞#snoopy#findsnoopy
(1/3)Today, in 1969, the 4th crewed mission in the United States Apollo program was launched. Apollo 10 was the second mission to orbit the moon & mission F was the ‘dress rehearsal’ for the Apollo 11 moon landing. They did everything BUT land on the moon. #Apollo10 image: @NASA
(2/3)Their lunar module, Snoopy, came within 15km of the lunar surface. Eugene Cernan, one of the crew members of Apollo 10 is convinced NASA purposefully didn’t give them enough fuel, in case they were tempted to go all the way!!

(1/4)This is the Shoebill bird and he can be found at the swamps of Eastern Africa. Their diet consists of mainly lungfish, eels and the occasional baby crocodile!

(3/4)However, positive efforts have been made to protect this endangered animal by creating protected habitat areas in Zambia, Tanzania and Uganda! #conservation#africanwildlife
The carer ant will ‘lick’ the wounded & most of the rescued survive to regain full heath. It is believed the ants produce a form of antibiotic from a gland on their body. This is the first time animals have been seen systematically nursing their wounded back to heath. #bekind
However not all of the injured are saved. If the injured ant has lost more than 3 legs, it will not ‘call’ for help; saving time, energy and resources for the remainder of the up to 20 million strong colony.

Here is an army of Matabele ants marching towards dinner. These ants live only on termites and after battles with the them, surviving soldier ants will rescue their wounded and take them to safety, where they are treated by their nest mates. #antlove#wonderfulscience
This is just the tip of the iceberg, it is estimated there are between 100 million-1 billion black holes in the Milky Way. However, this one is so close that it can be seen from the southern tip of South America with the naked eye!! #space#blackholes#closetohome#neighbors
We have a new neighbour!
1000 lightyears away from earth, in the HR6819 system, in the constellation Telecopium, a black hole more than 4 times the mass of our sun, lingers.
#newdescovery#science#wonderfulscience
Unlike other known black holes in the Milky Way, HR6819 doesn’t shine brightly with xrays created by absorbing gas from its companion star. The companion star of the HR6819 black hole is not so massive, meaning the black hole is being starved, making it extremely dark. #science
Rib Vortices: As a wave reaches it peak it falls forward and crashes into the sea creating ’rollers’. Rib Vortices are formed along the edge rollers, as masses of air and wind are pulled beneath the surface.
