Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is a rare but potentially serious infection of the brain caused by a virus spread to humans through mosquito bites.

In the last week JEV has been detected in pigs in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.

Very soon there will be doctors working who will have done all their clinical rotations in the context of this pandemic. For me this is a reminder to dig deep as an educator, advocate, and colleague for our medical students and doctors in training.
