This is the story of Hyperliquid, the most profitable startup per employee on earth, told from a guarded office in Singapore.

Last year, its team of 11 generated $900 million in profit. It's 3 years old, has never taken a dollar of venture capital, and is beginning to change how century-old markets work.

Its founder, Jeffrey Yan (@chameleon_jeff), had never taken a physics class when he picked up a textbook at 16. Two years later, he won gold at the International Physics Olympiad. In 2019, he started trading with $10,000 from a living room in Puerto Rico—working off a television because he didn't own a monitor.

Within 3 years, he was running one of the largest anonymous crypto trading firms.

Then he shut it down. Yan was rich and free, but he had spent years inside crypto, watching it betray itself. Bitcoin's central premise was decentralization. Yet the biggest exchanges were centralized. Crypto kept reintroducing the dependence on trust it was built to eliminate. He set out to create what should have existed.

Hyperliquid is a blockchain with a trading exchange on top, and anyone can build on it. Yan's vision is to house all of finance. In 3 years, it has done over $4 trillion in volume. And in the past few months, it has begun to outgrow crypto.

Markets for oil, silver, and the S&P 500 now trade on Hyperliquid around the clock, weekends included, and are growing roughly 40% week on week. When the US and Israel bombed Iran on a Saturday in February, Hyperliquid was the venue traders turned to.

Hyperliquid's success has cost Yan his freedom. He works out of a secret office in Singapore and cannot travel without two bodyguards. Even the team's housekeeper doesn't know what they do.

HYPE Funding Database

Since we have been building a database collecting funding rate, premium and open interest on all HIP3 markets and now $HYPE we have seen some interesting things like HYPE's funding stays positive 98.4% of the time.

Here is an annualized chart against the mark price. Interesting correlations occur and if you are running an agent or bot, a useful trigger could be buy when HYPE funding is -5% or greater.

An accurate index that measures volatility from events in real-time and now is being open sourced for other builders to add to their apps. The data is being pulled directly from the Hyperliquid Exchange.

Hype Volatility Index

If you ever wonder what's behind a huge move down or up and want to see how volatile it was in real-time, it's here.

Our HIP-3 Equities and Commodities Vol Indexes are spot on showing very high periods of volatility during big news events and headlines, so now we are adding a Hype Index. It'll be interesting to see what happens at random times when there aren't any headlines or news events, especially because this is data PURELY from the HL Exchange.

Volatility can be described in many ways, but ultimately it comes down to 'how much' is being sold/bought, 'at what rate' and is it persistent?

To track this we take a snapshot of the OI, Funding Rate and Funding Premium. Then every 60 seconds it determines the change from the previous snapshot for all 3 to create an Index value against how volatile the move was. For example, if massive buys/sells occur the index will tell you if its persistent over 'X' time or was it just a whale or two offloading a position. The charts are in 30m candles but the fetch is every 60 seconds, so every 60 seconds you will see a new index value. So if OI went from 100k to 90k and stops you can see that in the value as the value won't continue moving up but stabilize and move lower. But if OI went from 100k to 90k and some panic selling continued to 70k and it continues you will see this rise in the chart as well.

Since Equities and Commodities are a 'basket' of tickers, we created a OI-Weight to make bigger markets count more and Hype being just one ticker this weight is removed for this Index.

It is now open sourced.

Your points balance can be redeemed for HYPE or you can transfer them into your savings, lock them, adding a boost to the points you earn in the future.

70% of all OS fees will be held inside our builder address wallet for the duration of the points campaign. At the time of TGE that 70% will be used as liquidity for our token. After our TGE that 70% will convert to token buybacks.
