I’m a strong believer that Kazi Mbaya ni ile haikulipi.

Here is a summary of my story:

My first salary in ‘08 was KES 2500 😂😂😂😂 No rent or expenses.

My next salary was KES 6500 at a movie store. I Still had no expenses. I did that job till I joined campus in ‘09. FYI I was working against my parents’ wishes. To them that money was useless because they provided everything.

I really didn’t want to stay idle and this was my form of rebellion. Mimi ni mtu mzima type thing 😂😂😂😂

Before I finished campus, I landed another job that was paying KES 45000 for an American company that I continue to collaborate and work with to this day on small projects here and there.

I wouldn’t trade the experiences I got for anything. Most of the networks I made that time still come through when I need them.

When I started my business, those networks are what opened doors that accelerated my earnings, made my first mic at 23. Got to top 40 under 40 by 27. Ended up working in politics and that propelled me to one of the best business schools in the world.

Kazi mbaya ni ile haikulipi.

Take that 20k. Work like a dog, I promise it pays off. Use that 20K job as a stepping stone to the next level. The network you build is not in vain. The experience you get is not in vain. The lessons are not in vain.
