@mduboisfoley per https://t.co/2vxvYb5666, "Varsity athletic teams that are subject to routine surveillance testing may continue to gather for sanctioned activities according to established protocols and will be closely monitored."
@mduboisfoley when i tweeted this i was joking i didn't actually think we'd stay on campus and try to reset the semester while allowing sports to continue to practice
@mduboisfoley Like I said on July 29, "At Notre Dame, we strive to educate the whole person—mind, body and spirit". However, after a week of risking thousands of students' bodies and spirits for financial gain, we will continue to do so all semester. Who's excited for football season?!
everyone at ND: freaking out about covid, making plans for when we get kicked out of our dorms, praying that nobody dies
hammes notre dame bookstore: “✨Ta-Da! The sale you’ve been waiting for.✨”
like READ THE ROOM
@Ch8der81 @NotreDame many of our professors applied for accommodations and were denied them. custodial staff & dining hall workers (among others) can’t be remote. they’d likely lose their job if they said they weren’t able to work. students being at ND is putting a lot of people at risk.
hey @NotreDame, the 17.9% positivity rate yesterday & the 23.2% positivity rate today is stressing me out. maybe it’s inflated because you’re not testing enough people right now. but if this positivity rate is accurate across campus, we have ~1200 undergrads with covid right now!
does notre dame realize that it is far, far more embarrassing and detrimental to its image to have thousands of students contract and potentially die from covid than it is for school to just.... go online?
@_killeen_m @M_Bisner@NotreDame I agree 100%. I am optimistic that the 20ish percent positivity rate isn't accurate, but I think we need a more transparent testing program to get an accurate sense of how bad (or hopefully, not bad) covid is on campus.
@DuquesneDuke23@jessica_smetana Our problem is that there are symptomatic students being denied tests and its very hard for college students to quarantine/isolate with things like dorm life or having roommates. If ND tests you and you test positive, you go to a quarantine facility and actually isolate.
@stephmckay1@stancherry@jessica_smetana yep. i took mine (at nd's request) 8 days before i returned to campus. we didnt have to record ourselves taking it. and i can't confirm this, but i heard some students even had other family members take the test so they wouldn't test positive since they thought they might have it
@jessica_smetana@NDPelicanSaints pre-matriculation tests were taken at home, no monitoring to ensure they were done correctly. i took mine 8 days before i returned to campus, and everyone's were 5-10 days before we traveled back, many people on planes. tons of time to be exposed between testing and arrival to nd
@stancherry@jessica_smetana the problem is that we took our pre-matriculation tests 7-10 days before traveling back, giving lots of time for exposure before/during travel. also, symptomatic ppl are being denied tests.
@AdamCoquillard@jessica_smetana That is true, but since ND doesn’t count those tests in their numbers/dashboard, it leads to an underreporting of actual cases on campus.
