Herein lies the fundamental contradiction of the digital age: the more efforts are made to keep humanity under constant surveillance, the more humanity may seek out other paths.
You can switch off a screen, but you cannot switch off the human need to communicate freely.
History has shown us that those in power often believe they can control thoughts by controlling communication.First, they shaped people’s reality through television screens; now they seek to regulate social media under the guise of identity security and the protection of children
This is because technology does not evolve solely in the hands of those in power; society, too, reshapes it.
In Egypt, they cut off the internet, but they could not silence the public’s anger.

EGYPT 2011 — THEY CUT OFF THE INTERNET, BUT COULD NOT STOP THE ANGER
In January 2011, the Mubarak regime largely cut off internet access in Egypt. The goal was to hinder communication and organization. Yet, the movement in the streets did not come to an end.
