Just so I'm clear, it's ok for consumers to stop buying Bud Light when they don't like the company's position on an issue, but if advertisers spend their money not on Twitter because they don't like the company's position on an issue, it's blackmail?
Fired on Friday, rehired on Monday? The latest suggests the OAI board was simply frustrated by the CEO's bold vision and personal conviction that he was right. The banality of idiocy amiright?
Key here is that the board said their interpretation of the charter was they had no obligation to preserve the company. Only to ensure AGI developed for the benefit of all humanity. (The charter does contain language suggesting this. Bit about joining other labs if AGI nigh.)
@ericdrowell@snowmaker The balance is in SV unwritten rules. No savvy operator would blindside investors, customers, employees & the company founders this way b/c they know that even though they legally have the power, it would ruin their reputation and destroy important long-term relationships. FAAFO.
@bcmerchant I thought the same thing when the news broke, had to be a moral or financial scandal of some type. But increasingly am convinced its just a reckless coup over petty personality differences, made possible by insane bylaws that prevented investors from having any voting power.
Here's one I didn't think had to be said, but I guess I will anyway... the middle of closing an $86B funding round is a very bad time to fire a founding CEO just because you didn't like his style.
