my fyp lately has been filled with contents about fanfic writing and reading and after seeing so many of them i can conclude that everyone has wildly different, super specific, and oftentimes contradicting fic preferences so i think authors should just do whatever tf they want
May wrap up + finished this collection of short stories and wow, first foray into gaitskill and it was an experience. enjoyed the themes and style (added to my to copy) and there’s just something about the things left unsaid and unexplored (and why i do oneshots lol)
It is very cohesive as a whole and it draws u in. While the stories have been explored now, at the time, it make sense in terms of what it focuses on,
for maybe the didion-esque / virgin suicides / sad and complex lit likers HAHAHHA but a book that i will go back to dissect
No, I'm not done saying it yet: MEMORY is essential reading, and you absolutely need to read it.

i think to be a writer you have to be stubborn, defiant, and at least a bit delusional. i mean, you have to believe—and keep believing—that you have something worth putting on the page. even just for yourself.
every time I read something interesting theory/criticism-wise I just wind up with a list of more stuff to read. it is a never-ending game of whack-a-mole. the more you read the more stuff you have to read
