Introducing Willow, our new state-of-the-art quantum computing chip with a breakthrough that can reduce errors exponentially as we scale up using more qubits, cracking a 30-year challenge in the field. In benchmark tests, Willow solved a standard computation in <5 mins that would take a leading supercomputer over 10^25 years, far beyond the age of the universe(!).

Encore un résolveur #DNS public ? Oui, mais c'est une bonne chose, il en faut le plus possible, pour éviter de dépendre d'un petit nombre d'acteurs. Et celui-ci est géré par la fondation Wikimédia.

Apple introduces homomorphic encryption via Swift. A cryptographic technique that enables computations to be done on encrypted data without revealing the underlying unencrypted data in th process. For example during cloud computations. In short, the building blocks of privacy-preserving technologies, techniques or protocols. But there's more! Private Information Retrieval protocols! This allows building a database and retrieving information in ways that is private: only the client knows what information has been requested. The databases does not know what information the client requested. Yet, the client gets the data.
Why am I excited? I researched/used PIR ~15 years ago. In my Master's Thesis :-) https://t.co/hoBIorkxVk
JULIAN ASSANGE IS FREE
Julian Assange is free. He left Belmarsh maximum security prison on the morning of 24 June, after having spent 1901 days there. He was granted bail by the High Court in London and was released at Stansted airport during the afternoon, where he boarded a plane and departed the UK.
This is the result of a global campaign that spanned grass-roots organisers, press freedom campaigners, legislators and leaders from across the political spectrum, all the way to the United Nations. This created the space for a long period of negotiations with the US Department of Justice, leading to a deal that has not yet been formally finalised. We will provide more information as soon as possible.
After more than five years in a 2x3 metre cell, isolated 23 hours a day, he will soon reunite with his wife Stella Assange, and their children, who have only known their father from behind bars.
WikiLeaks published groundbreaking stories of government corruption and human rights abuses, holding the powerful accountable for their actions. As editor-in-chief, Julian paid severely for these principles, and for the people's right to know.
As he returns to Australia, we thank all who stood by us, fought for us, and remained utterly committed in the fight for his freedom.
Julian's freedom is our freedom.

When I was at DAZN, we had 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 2,000,000 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 for big events like El Classico.
Almost everyone logs in just before kick-off, creating huge (100x) traffic spikes. Back then, Lambda couldn't handle spikes of this magnitude.
So we had a rule that any APIs along the critical path of a user logging in and watching a match must run in containers unless the API response is cacheable.
Fast forward to 2024, after the scaling change announced at re:Invent 2023, I suspect Lambda can handle even spikes like this.
Before you say "That's going to be very expensive!" yes, but the spikes are short-lived, so it won't be expensive 24/7.
And do you know what else was even more expensive?
The 100s of idle EC2 instances in the non-production environments. They were easily costing more than $10k/month.
Plus all the developer hours that went into patching container images, troubleshooting networking issues, etc. Things that we wouldn't have to deal with if we could use Lambda for these APIs.
When you have 250+ engineers, this amounts to a huge opportunity and staffing cost.
So, remember, when thinking about costs, you need to think in terms of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
Especially in the age of AI because an AI-assisted engineer can give you so much more if his/her time is used on the right problems.

Coucou !
