@jfwduffield You don’t think Stokes and his senior players bear any responsibility for yesterday? Regardless of any mgmt issues, it all felt very player-led to me. Inc bizarre timing of announcement and decision for Ben to open
@Birdsbirdbird@s8mb He said we were “in hock to the bond markets”, but unclear what he actually meant by that. Def a concern but it’s one thing to say stupid things like that and another to actually implement them, particularly in a country with fairly robust institutions etc
@s8mb Agree, it’s worth being concerned about. But I think the probability is very low, given our institutions, constraints etc. I expect we’ll get slight acceleration of stupid, rather than suicidally stupid
@ShippersUnbound All well and good talking about becoming more like Finland. Question is whether they’d be willing to propose the average worker pays 30-40% more tax in order to achieve it. Won’t happen, none of them are willing to honestly discuss trade offs
@David__Osland Inflation was over 200% when he took office, it has since plummeted. Unemployment is up 1-2 % points (but still lower than the rate 10 years ago), hardly rocketing
@itsenglishfox@AngelaRayner The replies here really illustrate the complete absence of public understanding of European social insurance healthcare systems. Grim
