@markyh65@andie52@jamesinsurrey@drhicksbakers@ennakbl Lol i know how the SP works, Mark. I’ve also never once said it shouldn’t exist. My generation simply wants to be afforded similar opportunities to previous generations, but apparently we are selfish for wanting as such. Bonkers
@markyh65@andie52@jamesinsurrey@drhicksbakers@ennakbl What do i not understand? The SP was introduced to lift pensioners out of absolute poverty and destitution. If no other financial planning was made towards a retirement fund, why should it be at the expense of my generation?
@andie52@markyh65@jamesinsurrey@drhicksbakers@ennakbl SP was designed to keep pensioners out of destitution not provide a comfortable income. If pensioners have not saved for their retirement and equity in their property, they absolutely should downside to realise a portion of that equity
@andie52@markyh65@jamesinsurrey@drhicksbakers@ennakbl But it is older people who are continually patronising, telling us to “work harder” or “sacrifice more” when our situation is incomparable to previous decades, whilst fighting tooth and nail for the triple lock (paid for by us youngsters who apparently don’t work hard enough…)
@andie52@markyh65@jamesinsurrey@drhicksbakers@ennakbl But these are issues after you have bought a house. Alot of my generation are unable to even buy a house, which is the exact issue. Cutting a £6 netflix subscription or £30 phone bill makes absolutely zero difference in the context of housing affordability
@andie52@markyh65@jamesinsurrey@drhicksbakers@ennakbl My generation can do all of those things and still not afford a house - this is the issue. Saving c£100 on a monthly food bill by only eating super noodles or toast will have absolutely no impact on our ability to buy a house
@markyh65@andie52@jamesinsurrey@drhicksbakers@ennakbl Right but my mom worked in a local authority (again, an untechnical admin based role) and she could afford a house in her village (London commuter belt) which are now worth about £270k. No banking/relational privilege
@andie52@markyh65@jamesinsurrey@drhicksbakers@ennakbl But i acknowledge i am in a privileged situation as i was able to live at home and save, whilst earning above the median salary. A lot of my generation are not as privileged, and the solution should not have to be shipping everyone 100’s of miles up north
@markyh65@andie52@jamesinsurrey@drhicksbakers@ennakbl My point is that he was able to buy a house - which are now worth c£250k, on what would be a minimum wage salary. Someone on a minimum wage salary today would be offered a maximum mortgage of about half the house value
@andie52@markyh65@jamesinsurrey@drhicksbakers@ennakbl Blaming my own dad? Flipping heck - i was using an objective scenario to lay the issue in a basic scenario, as you lot seem so incapable of understanding. Oh to caveat - i am a homeowner, but i had to save a significant deposit and be a qualified chartered accountant to do so
@andie52@markyh65@jamesinsurrey@drhicksbakers@ennakbl “By moving 100’s of miles away from her family” - did you have to do this? How many peoples jobs offer such flexibility? Utterly ludicrous to offer this as a response or some sort of solution to the issue
@markyh65@andie52@jamesinsurrey@drhicksbakers@ennakbl We don’t “want everything”. We want to be able to buy housing at affordable prices like previous generations. Why is that too much to ask? My dad purchased his first house with no deposit in the late 70’s aged 21 working as a bank cashier. Those houses are now worth £250k
🚨Young people are being fleeced to fund the pensions triple lock, winter fuel payments, benefits & channel migrants.
❌ High taxes.
❌ Punitive student loan interest.
❌ Sky-high rents.
❌ Unaffordable homes.
Work more. Own less. Subsidise boomers, welfare & illegal migrants.
The intergenerational contract is broken.

@ianWilliam65099@IGMansfield Except these interest rates are variable - and change according to both RPI and earnings. A DCF model is a massive over simplification to this issue
> "hello young person sorry state pensions are too expensive you wont get one"
> ok i will use some of my salary for a private pension
> "no you can't do that either"
Don’t focus on tuition fees, focus on the 37% marginal rate paid by graduates earning £27k and the 57% rate paid by those earning £50k (plus interest).
an incident like this occurring at the same time as british male influencers being openly misogynistic, people like andrew tate becoming millionaires from their popularity, british men defending russell brand…and those same men now say this attack has nothing to do with misogyny
Boys need to stop being raised full of a hatred for women. This happens far too often, but to a child! This poor girl supposedly rejected his advances and he felt that this was an appropriate response?? I am so so sorry for her family, this should never have happened.
@Postvox hi, my item tracking says that you attempted to deliver my item on Thursday, and to enter the details left on the card to re-schedule delivery. However, no one attempted delivery on that day (have checked the ring doorbell), therefore no card left. Could you please help?
