Growing up in 90s Bengaluru, I used accompany my mum to pick up her freshly ground filter coffee powder every week from one of the various stores lining Mahakavi Kuvempu road. She would choose the mix of coffee and chicory she wanted. I wasn’t allowed to drink coffee as a child but I went with her because of that lovely aroma. People stopped at our house just to drink Amma’s coffee. Coffee is an anchor point of my childhood because of just how much it was mentioned around our house.
So sorry to disappoint but coffee too, like SO many other Bengaluru things and Bengaluru itself, have existed long before IT was a thing.
