Maturity means being able to rise above your feelings and your environment. You are not yet mature if you care about what other people think and allow it to affect your behaviour against your principles. You are still in a state where external environmental validation is more important than internal fulfilment. And if you allow what you feel to dictate your behaviour, you are less than a full human. Because only animals are controlled by their feelings and instincts. You have to be able to transcend your environment and feelings and be ruled by your principles because without following your principles, you cannot become a principal.
