The 2026 Madras High Court judgment should be a wake-up call. The Court upheld the cancellation of the TNPSC Group-I selections of five candidates who had claimed PSTM reservation on the strength of certificates that were subsequently found invalid by the University and acted upon by TNPSC. The judgment reaffirmed that fraud vitiates public employment and that genuine Tamil-medium students should not lose opportunities because of misuse of the 20% PSTM quota. Yet the larger question remains: Has the original objective of the 2010 PSTM Act—to encourage students to study in Tamil medium—been diluted? Between 2010 and 2020, many candidates reportedly studied largely in English medium and obtained only the qualifying Tamil-medium degree to claim PSTM. Even today, why is the "first appointment" condition in the Act not uniformly enforced? In addition,Three railway doubling projects in Tamil Nadu: 160 Km Katpadi–Villupuram, 160 km Salem–Karur–Dindigul and 65 km Erode–Karur lines have remained at the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage for nearly seven years, even as they have been listed in successive Railway budgets with steadily increasing allocations and consistent demands.

In addition, several railway doubling and new line projects have been stuck at the DPR (Detailed Project Report) stage for a long time. It would be beneficial if the Government and Southern Railway expedite these projects to improve connectivity, support economic growth, and meet the state's increasing transportation needs.
