@AkermanRochelle@beh353 I agree that this class has greatly increased my knowledge on nutrition. There are so many factors that contribute to nutritional issues. Not only can we better educate our patients but also provide them the right resources to find "solutions" for these issues. @beh353#beh353
Nutrition impacts everyone. As a future PA, I will not only provide a safe space to talk about nutrition as this sensitive topic but also share my knowledge on nutrition and provide resources like dieticians to better help my patients and advocate for them. @beh353#beh353
Reading this made once again proved the points that doing my own research is important & question why I am making the choices I make. There is no evidence that excluding gluten is beneficial to you except if you are gluten-sensitive or if you have celiac disease. @beh353#beh353
Thinking of going gluten-free? If you are, you have plenty of company. Interest and enthusiasm around #glutenfree diets continues to grow dramatically. But does it really improve your health or sense of well-being? https://t.co/60WRwoY4q8 #HarvardHealth
Thank you @EmmaDArpinoRDOne for your informative lecture. One thing I learned was that although we might know things abt nutrition, it doesn't hurt to refer to a dietitian cuz health care is a collaborative job with the goal of wanting the best for our patients.
@beh353#beh353
@PrachiP613@beh353 I totally agree with you. I think we have to be careful of diet culture as it might be a potential treatment for mental health issues but can easily get out of hand and turn into an eating disorder which is not ideal.
From "Avocados may reduce the risk of CVD to Avocados reduce the risk of CVD. Remember causation โ correlation. Avocados are associated "with significantly lower risk of total CVD and CHD" is what is concluded; not avocados reduce the risk of CVD & CHD. @beh353#beh353
This study has been all over social media & news for the past couple of weeks. Listening to how this study's conclusions were talked about or reading the titles of articles written about this study was intriguing and what caught my attention.
Avocados are abundant in healthy fats, fiber & micronutrients that boost #hearthealth. A long-term study has found that people who eat avocado regularly have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, which leads to heart attacks and strokes: https://t.co/GeApD5M8CM #HarvardHealth
Not only is it a fun game to play but also a great way for kids to learn about each food group necessary to our diet. And allowing kids to apply the MyPlate while making decisions about their food choices helps them understand how to eat well & MyPlate importance. @beh353#beh353
I never knew that vitamin C is also in other fruits & vegetables๐ ๐ซ๐ฅ๐ฅฆ๐๐ฅ not just citrus fruits๐๐! Nor did I know that vitamin C is lost when fruits/vegetables are heated or stored for long periods of time. @beh353#beh353
Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin well known for its role in supporting a healthy immune system. Here are some ways to consume enough of this nutrient through foods! ๐๐ฅฆ๐ ๐ฅ

Creating a safe space is essential as it will allow patients to feel confident that they will not be judged nor will their health issues be neglected for the sole reason that their weight is the "cause" even when it may not be at all. @beh353#beh353
Michael Hobbes's article highlights the bias overweight ppl face, especially among healthcare providers. As a future healthcare provider unlearning bias & being nonjudgemental helps create a safe space for ppl to talk about their weight.
@CarlySul12 @beh353 I ๐ฏ agree! A patient's weight should not be the sole reason for their health issues and an excuse for healthcare providers to not look at other underlying causes. As it can lead healthcare providers to miss something crucial that can be life-threatening due to their negligence.
What an intriguing read! It surprises me how much salt is in a small teaspoon of condiments like ketchup (51mg) contains. I never knew that condiments can have health benefits like red pepper/ chili pepper can help with digestive issues and pain relief. @beh353#beh353
@MMansour0808@beh353 I learned about how sleep affects weight a few years ago. Which as a result, influenced me to build a better sleeping schedule. Since I now sleep ~7hrs, I tend to eat less than before. Lack of sleep = less energy = more eating to make up for the depleted energy @beh353#beh353
I did not know that genetics can play a role in obesity. As a future health care provider, knowing the possible causes of obesity such as lack of sleep, poor diet, genetic condition, etc. will allow me to be able to provide the right tools for ppl on weight loss. @beh353#beh353
As long as we keep conscious of what we are ordering, we can still be healthy while ordering food; e.g. looking at the nutrition facts. Although it is not always as healthy as it is when we make it ourselves, it is better than just ordering whatever. @beh353#beh353
