Have you ever wondered what lies beneath the peat 😱? This site has a large number of peat pipes, which are often associated with damaged peatland. We will be trialling ways to reduce the flow of water 💦entering these pipes, protecting our peatlands from further damage😁
We took a break from manual labour to get some drone shots of our restoration work, thanks to @KingfisherIOM 😀 It's a great way of seeing what we have done, and how much we still have to do (lots!) 🫣
We're on the map! Even though the #IsleOfMan is not part of the UK, it's great to have our project included in a map of peat partnerships 😁 This was a discussion around peatland strategy across the UK (and IoM😉)
Curlew Action's founder @curlewcalls led on the Natural History GCSE campaign, and says:
“I urge the Department for Education consider the power that lies behind this qualification and to fast track it through the system. We owe it to the next generation.”
The Beinn-y-Phott peatland restoration site is looking fabulous! Home to some amazing species including Emperor Moth caterpillars with beautiful pink bumps & Fir club moss (stems look like tiny conifers) 🐛🌱🌞
What a treat to spend the afternoon at Beinn-y-Phott ⛰️ looking at the amazing work of @ManxPeat (Manx Peat Partnership). They’ve achieved amazing things in a relatively short period and at reasonable cost too! 💚 #MyBiosphere#IsleOfMan belated #BogDay trip @manxnature
@jjcorteen74 For context I would be taking the ground nesting bird signs down over the next couple of weeks. Hence replacing the original sign with this one.
Thanks, Anna
@jjcorteen74 Hello John,
Thank you for passing this information on. I have replaced the sign with our ‘Stop and think’ signs, this includes messaging about disturbance of birds in the area.
Many thanks,
Anna
Did any racers find the trail bikers running along the fenceline between Mountain Box and Black Hut with headlights on during yesterday’s Superbike race distracting? I know one that did. 🏍️ #StayOnTheGreenLanes
The Isle of Man banned peat extraction in 2020, however we still import peat for horticulture and fuel. This needs to stop - please show support for this bill to ban peat sales #2024peatban#BogsNotBags This video explains why ⬇️
This video shows how unstable peat can be, especially when it's damaged 😢Although it appears to be solid, it can be up to 85% water!

Tidying up after the diggers have left 😀. We slow the flow of water and protect the base of the peat using coir logs. Heather brash is then spread to shelter the peat from the weather and allow plants to establish 🌿
