@picturebookbc Anna: Thank you for having us! @picturebookbc โค๏ธ and thank you to everyone for the conversation - a chat about hope is a perfect way to begin the holidays! ๐ #picbookbc
@gittins_kerry @picturebookbc Jane: Thank you for having us! We really enjoyed the conversation, and we have a few new books to go and purchase now, from everyone's recommendations. #picbookbc
@picturebookbc Jane: Thank you! Tilly is the book that is most closely based on real events from my childhood. The others are sometimes inspired by a real event, or an observation, or a snippet of conversation, or a memory or dream or preoccupation. #picbookbc
@gittins_kerry @picturebookbc Jane: I love to walk in the forest behind Lorne, or anywhere in the Otways. Also the beaches in those parts. I also spend quite a bit of time in a tiny place called Korweinguboora, near Daylesford, and I love walking in the Wombat State Forest near there. #picbookbc
@gittins_kerry @picturebookbc Anna: Ooooh! So many insects, animals and nature settings that make me smile in delight! A recent favourite is the scampering mouse (ratty) I saw at 6am this morning, having an early breakfast in our fig tree! #picbookbc
@kayebaillie @picturebookbc Jane: Anna and I just had a quick chat re this, and while we don't say Yes, this is good, sometimes a page or illustration or phrase will really come together and feel very authentic and that's when we smile at each other and keep going! #picbookbc
@mybookburrow Jane: yes I have, Thanks Nicola! Thank you for the opportunity! It's a little nerve-wracking and hopefully I've done okay! Might have a glass of wine now! #picbookbc
@picturebookbc Thank you! Well, Tilly happened to my younger sister Cait when we were children. That one is most closely based on something that really happened. Others might start with a real event, or a snippet of conversation, or something I see, that I use as inspiration for the story.
@lobroo Anna: my creative space is at my studio at Abbotsford Convent ๐. I have had some lovely studios throughout the years, am lucky to be in such a beautiful one now with dear friends #picbookbc
@lobroo Jane: I haven't always had a room of my own, but a few years ago I converted my son's bedroom to a study (son had moved out!). I also love to write at Lorne where I often go on a solo retreat. When I'm there I write, read and walk. Perfect! #picturebookbc
@picturebookbc Anna: Thank you for your kind words! It is always hard to choose a favourite. . .For me, Little Cat and The Big Red Bus was extra special as I felt it was my first true picture book. And the beginning of working with Janie! โค๏ธ #picbookbc
@picturebookbc Jane:Thank you, that's very generous! I like each of our books for different reasons. Tilly is a favourite because it's based on a true story about my little sister when we were children, and Anna interpreted it so beautifully. It's a bittersweet story, exploring sadness and hope
@gittins_kerry @picturebookbc Jane: I think ideas are like breathing - they are everywhere, all around, and part of us. My ideas and inspiration come from experiences big and small, observations of the world around me, aspects of life I'm preoccupied with or worried about, dreams and nature. #picbookbc
@PictureBkSerge Jane: I don't intentionally try to include adult readers in my books, but if it happens, it's an added bonus! It probably happens as I feel there's no discontinuity in my personality from when I was a child and as I am now. Maybe this is a blessing, or a maladjustment!#picbookbc
