Stumbled upon a church whose pastor refuses to use the term "Christianity" and instead calls the faith "Apostolic Jesus Messianic Judaism" and the New Testament is the modern version of the "New Royal Torah"
@NachoDaddio@BrocA96 There are a lot of incorrect doctrines and evils in the Catholic Church. But I still don't think it's the Whore of Babylon more than any other church. BRM was specifically asked to change this when MD was republished. Regardless, thanks for your thoughts and God bless.
@NachoDaddio@BrocA96 Joseph makes it clear in the section I quoted that, if the Catholic Church was entirely evil, nothing good could have come from it. Their doctrines can be incorrect but that doesn't mean they are the Whore of Babylon.
@NachoDaddio@BrocA96 It is wrong. No President of the Church ever identified the Catholic Church in this way. Joseph said, “the old Catholic Church traditions are worth more than all you have said” (see History of the Church volume 23 chapter 6).
@astrangerthere The quote seems to be from H. Polano's 1876 translation of "selections" from the Talmud but Maurice Harris (a rabbi from Harlem who died in 1930) includes it in his book on the Talmud from 1901. No clue what the source quote they translated from is.
@RadderdaySaint Big recommend the Brief Theological Introductions. They break the text into select themes and provide a lot of questions to think about like the Made Harder books. Jacob and Ether in particular are great.
@Historycourses What’s the basis behind them always claiming “the state of Israel is against Torah?” They say it in videos constantly and never elaborate, and the only replies I see are from non-Jews saying how “self-evident” that position is
Kraut's Holy Priesthood vol. 4 does have this amazing Brigham Young reference I had never heard, where Young says monogamy was invented by evil, oppressive Romans
Ogden Kraut's defense of plural marriage first presents polygamy as a cross-culturally universal practice with material benefits before ever discussing the law revealed to Joseph. Kraut seems to see polygamy around the world as the remains of a higher law that was restored later
