Just pointing out that peak CCU isn't "most played", it's peak concurrent users as in the most amount of people playing the game at a given time, not most who played the game total.
The most played FF on Steam is still the highest selling FF on Steam which is FFXV which has sold around 2-3 million on Steam now
FFRS hitting the highest single player FF Peak CCU is an impressive feat but saying it's the most played FF isn't actually what that number is.
@TaylorsShelf That number isn't most played, it's peak concurrent users as in most amount of people playing the game at a given time, most played FF is still the one that sold the most on Steam which is FFXV at around 2-3 million now
@Cammy_Dalamud This post here is the shareholder talking about what it was that they actually said and this twitter post is that shareholder saying this BEFORE SE put out an official transcript
I said profit and fanboys for XVI and 7R are going on about sales of FFRS still being lower than XVI or 7R
Let me let you guys in on a little secret, FFXVI was not profitable from the 3 million copies it sold and this is from SE directly not just me saying it, while if FFRS sells even 1 million it will already have made more profit than FFXVI did
FFXVI's entire development and advertising costs were amortised in Q1 FY2024 which is the quarter it released in and SE stated that XVI had underperformed which in turn caused SE's stock to tank at the time, that means the money made from the 3 million sales that XVI made did not produce revenue enough to even break even let alone be profitable over its own development and advertising costs
Also with reports of XVI costing around $300m it's no surprise, the maximum amount of money XVI could have even made at launch was $147m in revenue and none of that was even profit.
A HD2D game like FFRS can sell less than 1 million and still be more profitable because it cost considerably less to make than a AAA mainline FF while having the potential to sell over 1 million like multiple other HD2D games have, none of which were even FF games mind you.
This is about sales in relation to dev+advertising budgets, not sales in general being compared total which is why I said PROFIT
I'm expecting FF Resonance to sell around 1 million in the first week, will probably hit 2-3 million by the end of the first month especially if positive WoM spreads (which it appears to be doing so based on the overwhelmingly positive Steam reviews).
This game is without a doubt going to be more profitable for Square Enix than FFXVI or the FF7R parts ever could have been.
I saw a tweet from the Japanese person who claims they were the shareholder who asked the question and they said they did not say what you claim or what was being reported in the articles that were being translated from English back to Japanese, the "clarified" remarks are the same thing that the person said in their tweet transcribing what they had said
Also your post completely left out what they actually said which was that since other FF games like FF7 Remake came to Switch 2 can we expect to see other FF also going to Switch 2, and then they said they'd like to see FFXV on Switch 2, that was it, nothing about a FFXV Remake and they were not talking about Switch 1 either.
You are the source of the "FFXV Remake for Switch" fumble, not the shareholder.
@Cammy_Dalamud Nothing was misrepresented, you just can't read the financial reports, or Japanese for that matter
Wasn't it you who broke the news claiming a SE shareholder asked for a FFXV remake for Switch 2 only for that to be not what they said at all?
I'm expecting FF Resonance to sell around 1 million in the first week, will probably hit 2-3 million by the end of the first month especially if positive WoM spreads (which it appears to be doing so based on the overwhelmingly positive Steam reviews).

Also this isn't to say AAA games can't be profitable, again FFXV was insanely profitable for SE on day 1 and has long sales legs outperforming every other mainline in a comparative timeframe.
AA games offer less risk but a high potential return on investment even just selling to a niche due to their lower costs involved while still being able to sell 1 million or 2.
AAA game offer higher risk due to the higher costs associateds with them but also a higher potential ceiling for the return on investment especially if it hits mainstream which is why so much more money is spent on advertising the AAA games so they can get as many eyes as possible on them.
A game like FFXV profited day 1 according to SE, in fact reports are that the FFXV mobile game deal covered the entire development and advertising costs for FFXV which allowed practically ALL of FFXV's sales on console and its late PC port to be pure profit since launch which is why SE stated FFXV exceeded expectations at launch, a statement made exclusively in financial reports for games that SE deems very profitable.
A game like FF7R was never stated to have "exceeded expectations", and 4 months after release when 7R hit 5m on PS4 the SE financial report stated that sales were slowing down, it wasn't until the PS5 port and then PC port over a year later that 7R gained an additioinal 2m sales by September 2023, which by June 2025 is still "over 7m" and thus under 8m according to SE, at best a neutral statement like with FF7R and KH3's report is just that it broke even but it did not do gang busters for them like FFXV did, or even Nier Automata for that matter which SE also stated exceed expectations just from it selling 1m.
Then you have games like XVI and FF7 Rebirth which SE explicitly stated underperformed with XVI having done 3m (in reality it sold 2m something the 3m figure was including all shipments including what would be unsold stock), and Rebirth comparatively also did around 2m something at launch based on all sales trackers positioning it around on par with XVI's launch but with SE never putting out a sales statement.
When SE made the XVI sales announcement it literally hurt their financials because it had underperformed, SE made the calculation to not repeat that mistake with FF7 Rebirth so they did not say what its sales were because whatever number they said would have hurt their stock too, and they have refused to give a number to this day because they know it will, so they just give statements like "yeah the PC and switch version are doing fine" just to deflect from the actual full picture of its sales performance
This is the same as that time SE western branch twitter PR made some damage control statement about XVI sales in relation to it install base being "extremely strong" before the financial reports had happened revealing XVI underperformed in relation to its budget
SE financial reports never mention install bases in any reports because that has nothing to do with sales targets or recouping investments so it was funny as fuck seeing the western twitter PR guy spouting some shit about install base when it didn't even prove anything, and was also a worse attach rate than FFXV had on PS4 at launch anyway too despite their claim
Interview PR and twitter PR always run damage control for sales of games that underperform, the financial reports reveals all.
Again he's talking about in relation to the new ports which were released recently, port sales are a fraction of the target console sales
The ports on later platforms doing better than expected is not him saying the game is profitable overall, its PR spin and we've seen it time and time again
