I read this in Swami Rama’s The Highest State of Wisdom and it’s remained with me. He told about this essay contest he witnessed while studying in Europe. The question was how Christ changed water to wine. The student who won answered with a one liner 🧵

By this he meant that life can be as tough or as facile as you choose to perceive it.

However, this is a completely different context, actually, an experience that illustrates the student’s answer

I happened on the Yoruba creation story which highlights the significant role birds played in the spread of plant life as we know it, and it occurred to me the patience and intricate detail that went into evolution ✨

I agree with this, I like being grown up. Every now and again, I find myself cringing at the actions and things my younger self did. Makes me appreciate the journey thus far and inspires my imagination for what’s to be with guided positioning.

When I think about it, I like being an adult. Childhood is trauma. For all of us. Some say no, they had an amazing childhood because they had good parents or didn’t suffer. But that’s not the point.

The nature of childhood itself is traumatic. Because you’re innocent and dependent and that means you’ll be indoctrinated—whether good or bad, every contact you make is a crisis. Every touch is a modified blow. Everything is molding you. Some grow up with more baggage than others but it’s never a perfect result.

So, much of adulthood is simply learning to “grow” out of childhood traumas. That means relearning, reshaping, revisiting, reprocessing everything dumbed in you. You go back to the crime scene to clean up the mess and even for the parts that checked out right, you have to make sure it’s truly beautiful; it’s truly yours.
