in grade school i used to have a classmate who genuinely wanted to learn, he was great at sports, talked to everyone, and always smiling. one day i found him crying alone because he couldn’t complete exercises. you never know what someone is going through, kudos to this man
BREAKING:
A new video has emerged of the French 17-year-old bit Louis being beaten up by a group of migrants a few weeks ago.
Another video of a second, fatal beating from a few days ago went viral yesterday after it was announced that Louis had died.
Just spent the past week travelling around central Europe on first class trains, which really don't cost very much. Vienna to Prague, for example, a trip of some 4 hours, is less than £50. The level of service and (relative) punctuality is just unimaginable in the UK.
Social media trends have turned the world’s most beautiful places into endless bathroom lines at a concert, where everyone waits for hours just to take the same photo to show to people who couldn’t care less 🌎📸
Nothing captures the shallow decay of our time better than this
Compare how the media portrayed these two:
For a victim, they chose the most unflattering image they could find.
For a murderer, they went through his childhood photos to find the most harmless.
It's not accidental. One is designed to elicit sympathy, while the other is not.
I have legitimately seen this a few times in my career. I call these people the professional slackers.
They show up just enough to seem important and knowledgeable. They are highly selective in who they respond to on slack and email. Their calendar is full of meetings they never show up for. They dodge and weave hard questions and scrutiny like Shaolin masters. All their effort goes into managing optics.
They build a series of symbiotic relationships and alliances with other people who make them look good. In turn, they take care of them with great compensation and perks. Some of these people even do the hard work willingly.
And when the scrutiny finally catches up with them, they peace out for their next Director+ level role elsewhere.
