For Padma Shri Dr. Tapan Kumar Lahiri, it isn't a high salary or a fancy title that matters. After training in the USA, Dr. Lahiri returned to India to work at BHU for just Rs 250 a month.
​Since 1994, he has donated his entire salary to help his patients. He doesn't have a car. He doesn't have a private practice and never married. Today, in his 80s, he still walks to the hospital every morning with a simple black umbrella to treat the poor for free.
​He once said, "I will continue to treat people until my last breath."

- The top secret weapon in India's arsenal against insurgency and sepratism - Time.

- As long as you're not actively challenging India's sovreignity (you can say whatever you want), the Indian State lets you be.

- It will engage with you, it will listent to your demands, it will try to accomodate as many of them as it can w/o stepping on the toes of others and within India's constitutional bounds, look after your friends and families, and let you prosper.

- As the wheel of time turns, it grinds the toughest and hardest of insurgent and sepratist leaders and cadres.

- Some simply die out (many a times in expensive hospitals arranged for my the Indian State), others become accustomed to the easy and good life, while many simply lose the willpower to keep on fighting.

- They witness Indian economy going from strength to strength, people living good life, their own clans, tribes, ethnic groups more tigthly integrated with India, and realize its simply futile to think that they can take on India and have a separate State.
