>Killing physical media
>In the same announcement they're making hundreds of digital games lost forever
>Already removed hundreds of movies people already bought
100% a power move, they're telling the masses they are the ones in control and there's nothing they can do about it
Yeah this totally sucks. They will eventually try to blame this decision on the handheld, but the reality is, they want you spending more money on games, with less consumer choice.
Don't take my word for it! Look at the prices of physical vs digital on PSN for older titles.
I can't help but think gaming is in a really, really bad place right now.
Things like this, massive layoffs/closures across the industry losing thousands of talented people who will never return, and the continual refocus on the Hollywoodification of games in general.
I hate it.
At this point, building a gaming PC or getting a solid pre-built is the way to go (5070/9070XT). It sucks how expensive computer parts get, but the savings you’ll make buying games on Steam, and the ability to upgrade incrementally, seems to make it the most cost effective route.
i don't like commenting on layoffs since i am surrounded by the reality of it every day. but i feel for Xbox folks who have to endure weeks of media coverage saying this or that while they get no answers in their 9 to 5. i just went thru this a few months ago. it's demoralizing.
Announcing that you’re no longer producing physical games at the same time as announcing that you’re shutting down a digital storefront is quite the choice
