Here is the 1st video of a Klamath River salmon passing the Keno Dam fish ladder in 100+ years. This is another positive sign that the river is on the path to recovery following the removal of 4 dams last year. While much work remains, there is genuine reason for optimism.

In the right conditions, antibiotic resistance can happen extremely fast. Here is an example from my own work of bacteria overcoming an antibiotic in just eleven days in a giant petri dish:

BREAKING: Israel Assassinates Palestinian Journalist And Family in Central Gaza
An Israeli airstrike targeted the tent of Palestinian journalist Saeed Amin Abu Hassanein in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza. The bombing killed Abu Hassanein, his wife, Asmaa Jihad Abu Hassanein, and their young daughter, Sarah.
Abu Hassanein worked nearly 20 years at Al-Aqsa Radio, specializing in audio engineering and radio mixing. His killing is part of Israel’s ongoing campaign to silence Palestinian journalists.

NEWS: Last night, DHS detained a Palestinian who helped lead Columbia encampment.
Agents told him his visa was revoked. He said he had a green card. They were confused—then said that was revoked too.
His attorney demanded a warrant. Agents hung up instead.https://t.co/4t2RByUI1x
Folks, NOAA/NWS is more than just forecasts. It’s fire weather. It’s severe weather outlooks. It’s climate. It’s informationthat our FARMERS use day in and day out making us the breadbasket of the world. This agency monitors our oceans, our fisheries health. It touches our lives in ways you cannot even imagine. Everyone wants efficiency. No of us should want a NOAA/NWS that cannot fulfill it’s mission that makes us safer and protects us from what nature throws at us AND help us be better stewards of the environment
Going into the severe weather and hurricane season, this cannot be good.
The Commerce Department has laid off hundreds of NOAA employees, many with specialized skills who work at one of the world's top climate science and weather forecasting agencies.
Why it matters: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is responsible for providing weather watches and warnings, monitoring and studying Earth's climate, as well as operating weather satellites and protecting marine life.
The layoffs of probationary employees that began Thursday hit soon after cuts at the behest of Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency occurred at other climate and environment agencies.
The big picture: NOAA's missions require staff to work around the clock to monitor dangerous weather, earthquakes that could cause tsunamis, and other hazards.
In recent weeks, NOAA's National Weather Service has issued warnings for deadly flooding in Kentucky, heavy snow, frigid temperatures and other hazards across the country.
While NOAA had pushed for public safety exemptions from the layoffs for NWS meteorologists, not all were granted. A congressional aide reported hearing that "some" at NWS were spared but "not many."
Sad, unacceptable, and DANGEROUS.
Massive cuts to NOAA, including @NOAA_GLERL are devastating.
Among the critical role it serves to the public (e.g. harmful algal blooms), GLERL was also the site of my Spotted Gar experiments for my PhD. 😢
SMFH.
Genocide apologists are trying to get the BBC to remove the documentary 'Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone' from iPlayer.
Here are some clips from the film (all the footage was filmed by two Palestinian cameramen in Gaza)
We trained a genomic language model on all observed evolution, which we are calling Evo 2.
The model achieves an unprecedented breadth in capabilities, enabling prediction and design tasks from molecular to genome scale and across all three domains of life.
Thanks to all who have supported my pardon after I was detained for 1,000 days by Chevron. The clock is ticking with only 5 days left until President Biden leaves, but I remain optimistic.👊🙏🙏
This is how it should be done.
Netanyahu’s now officially an alleged war criminal and should be arrested if he goes to a country that is part of the international court. He needs to stand trial.
Maybe it’s time for US to sign on as well. ⚖️
Hundreds of salmon are now spawning in Klamath River tributaries above the 4 recently dismantled dams for the first time 60 & 112 years. It is exciting and bodes well for the future. Still, it will take several years for fish runs to recover & there is still much more work to do.
We just posted a new paper in @bioRxiv providing the first comprehensive estimates of global genetic diversity loss
